How's it going?

Hope this finds you lot well.

Today I'm back to hit you up with some American slang adjectives so as to shape up your English.
These words are commonly used in real life situations in the States. So use 'em and enrich your vocab.

1- Awesome or Wicked - amazing.
E.g. That was an awesome / a wicked movie.

2- Beat- tired
E.g. Ndiapanga is beat today because he didn't sleep much last night.

3- Blue or down- sad, depressed.
E.g. Mafuta is feeling depressed because her cat died / Mafuta is down because her cat died.

4- Brainy - very intelligent, like a genious.
E.g. Ndembo always does well on tests because she's brainy.

4- Broke - without money.
E.g. Ndaundaku spent all his money at the casino, so now he's broke.

5- Fishy - suspicious.
E.g. Matondo thought it was fishy that her neighbor had so many visitors at night.

6- Hammered - drunk.
E.g. Popotchive had nine beers, so now he's hammered.

7- Hot- sexy or stolen.
E.g. Kapita says his new girlfriend is hot (sexy).
- That stereo is hot (stolen).

8- Hungover - tired from drinking too much the day before.
E.g. Kassala's bachelor party was last night. He's really hungover.

9- Loaded- rich.
E.g. Loads of politicians in Angola are loaded.

10- Nuts or Nutty - crazy.
E.g. That lady keeps talking to herself. Do you think she's nuts?

11- On cloud nine - very very happy.
E.g. Nkezi just won a million dollars, so he's on cloud nine!

12- Super - great.
E.g. Bonga is a super singer.

13- Ticked - angry.
E.g. He's really ticked because his friend had a party but didn't invite him.

14- Upbeat - positive.
E.g. Mbenza is very upbeat.

10- Common phrases for not having an opinion:

* I've never given it much thought.
* I don't have strong feelings either way.
* It doesn't make any difference to me.
* I have no opinion on the matter.

11- Common phrases for disagreeing:

* I'm not so sure about that.
* That's how I see it.
* Not necessarily.

12- Common phrases to respond to bad news:

* Oh no...
* That's terrible.
* Poor you. ( Use this phrase to respond to bad news that are not too serious)
* I'm so sorry to hear that.

13- Common phrases to invite someone somewhere:

* Are you free... [ Saturday night] ?
* (Informal) Do you wanna...[ See a movie] ?
* Are doing anything...[sunday night]?
* Would you like to...[join me for dinner] ?

14- Common phrases for food:

* I'm starving! [ I'm very hungry]
* Let's grab a bite to eat.
* How about eating out tonight? ( eat out = eat at a restaurant)
* I'll have... ( Use this phrase for ordering a meal in a restaurant)

15- Common phrases for price:

* That's a rip-off. ( = overpriced, far more expensive than it should be)
* That's a bit pricey.
* That's quite reasonable. ( = It's a good price)
* That's a good deal. ( = a good value for the amount of money)
* It was a real bargain.
* It was dirt cheap. (= extremely inexpensive)

16- Common phrases for being tired:

* I'm exhausted.
* I'm dead tired.
* I can hardly keep my eyes open.
* (Informal) I'm gonna hit the sack. ( hit the sack= go to bed)

17- Common phrases for weather:

* It's a little chilly.
* It's freezing. ( = extremely cold)
* Make sure to bundle up. ( bundle up = put on warm clothes for protection against the cold)
* It's absolutely boiling! ( boiling = extremely hot)
* It's scorching hot outside.

If you know many words in English, there's a possibility that you might not be able to speak one correct sentence but If you know small number of phrases, you will be able to speak many correct sentences.
Today, Coly's Imitation English brings a list of some of the handiest phrases used in English.
Please, folks, practice them and shape up your English.

Part 1

1- Common phrases to ask how someone is:

* How's it going?
* How are things?
* How's life?
* What's up?
* What's new?
* What have you been up to lately?

2- Common phrases to say thank you:

* I really appreciate it.
* I'm really grateful.
* That's so kind of you.
* I owe you one. ( this means you want/need to do a favour for the other person in the future)

3- Common phrases to respond to great news:

* That's great!
* How wonderful!
* Awesome!

4- Common phrases to say how you are:

* I'm fine, thanks. How about you?
* Pretty good.
* Same as always.
* Not so great.
* Could be better.
* Can't complain.

5- Common phrases to respond to thank you:

* No problem.
* No worries.
* Don't mention it.
* My pleasure.
* Anytime.

6- Common phrases to end a conversation politely:

* It was nice chatting with you.
* Anyway, I should get going.

7- Common phrases to ask for information:

* Do you have any idea...?
* Would you happen to know...? ( When you're not sure If the other person has the information)
* I don't suppose you (would) know...?( When you're not sure If the other person has the information)

8- Common phrases to say I don't know:

* I have no idea / clue.
* I can't help you there.
* Beats me. ( Informal)
* I'm not really sure.
* I've been wondering that, too.

9- Common phrases for agreeing:

* Exactly.
*Absolutely.
* That's so true.
* That's for sure.
* I agree 100%.
* I couldn't agree with you more.
* Tell me about it / you're telling me! (Informal)
* I'll say. ( Informal)
* I suppose so. ( Use this phrase for week agreement. You agree but reluctantly)
