Performance Education is on a mission to revolutionise graduate employability in Australia, equipping our students with the tools for success through training and quality industry networks. Our mission started over 17 years ago – as top industry recruiters, we saw graduates struggling to enter the competitive job market. Although they were equipped with fresh technical knowledge, ideas and enthusi

asm, graduates were hindered by a lack of workplace skills and experience. At PE, we believe that every graduate should have the opportunity and skills to pursue the career of their choice. Our Professional Year programs combine our expertise in recruitment, training and professional services to give graduates the skills and qualities that employers look for in prospective candidates. We work with over 11,000 Host Employers who are passionate about improving employability for the next generation, giving our graduates the real-world experience they need to thrive. We are Australia’s largest Professional Year provider, with campuses across 4 cities and classes running 7 days a week. We’ve changed the lives and improved the employability of over 35,000 graduates – and we’re still going strong. In our first 12 years we were featured in the BRW Fast Starters list twice and have since grown to become recognised as an industry leader, delivering outstanding employment outcomes to thousands of graduates across Australia.

This question trips people up because they think it's an invitation to talk. It's not. It's a filter. The interviewer is asking "why should the next 30 minutes be spent on you?"

Structure it in three moves. First, where you're coming from professionally, one sentence. Second, one concrete result, not a skill list. Third, what you want next and why this role fits it.

Example: "I studied information systems and spent my final year project building an inventory tracking tool that cut manual stock checks by half for a small business client. I'm now doing my Professional Year internship in IT support, and I'm looking for a role where I can keep solving operational problems like that one, which is what drew me to this position."

Notice what's missing: no birthplace, no childhood, no "I've always been passionate about technology." Employers hear that phrase a hundred times a week and tune it out. A specific result they can picture is what makes you memorable enough to remember after interview six. Thirty seconds, one story, and you've already stood out.

Michael Matta is a software engineer in Sydney. He came into his Professional Year already skilled. What he needed was help translating that into an Australian resume, a stronger LinkedIn presence, and the confidence to talk to recruiters the right way.

His trainer Hema worked with him on all three. Today Michael is a software engineer at Capital Lens.

Real support, real outcome. That's the program.

**Graduates of the ACS Professional Year in IT may be able to claim 5 points toward their skilled migration under an eligible IT skilled occupation. Not guaranteed.

Interviewers form an impression fast, and a shaky start is hard to recover from even if your answers are strong. Most of what goes wrong is preventable the night before, not five minutes out.

Test your camera, mic, and internet connection the evening prior, not right before the call, tech problems in the first 60 seconds rattle your confidence for the rest of the interview. Sit somewhere with light facing you, a window in front works better than one behind you. Close every other tab and app, notifications during an interview are a bad look.

When the call connects, use their name and thank them for the time, small, but it sets a human tone before the formal questions begin. If something glitches, name it calmly instead of pretending it's fine: "there's a small delay on my end, can you hear me okay?" shows composure under pressure, which is often exactly what the interview is testing for anyway. Interviewers remember how you handled the hiccup more than they remember a perfect connection. Preparation is what makes composure possible.
