National Simultaneous Story Time:
Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller

Yesterday our school joined millions of children (young and old) across Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime 2026!

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is an annual event that promotes the importance of reading and literacy while encouraging children across the country to experience the same book at the same time. It is a wonderful way to celebrate storytelling, imagination and a love of books within schools and communities. This year NSS took place on Wednesday 27 May 2026 at 12:00pm.

A big thank you to Ms Hamilton for bringing the story to life during a wonderful shared reading session.

2024 was the biggest and most successful NSS to date with over 2.3 million participants at over 21,000 locations! We are so proud to be a part NSS in 2026. This is Hunter Sports High's 3rd year taking part.

Students from Ruby and Opal classes loved coming together in the Ruby room to listen to the story, share laughs and enjoy the excitement of reading together. Following the reading, students participated in a creative art-making activity inspired by the book, working together to create some fantastic pieces and continue the storytelling through art.

It was wonderful to see students connecting through literacy, creativity and collaboration while celebrating the joy of books and learning together.

We would like to congratulate Jai Laws on commencing a School-Based Apprenticeship (SBAT) in carpet laying. This is a fantastic opportunity for him to gain valuable workplace experience, develop industry skills, and work towards a nationally recognised qualification while continuing his schooling. We are incredibly proud of his dedication, hard work, and strong focus on his future, and we look forward to seeing all he achieves through this exciting pathway.

Our students recently had the incredible opportunity to visit RAAF Base Williamtown and Fighter World as part of an Engineering focused excursion with BAE Systems.

Students explored the exciting world of aerospace engineering, aircraft maintenance and defence industry careers, gaining firsthand insight into the technology, teamwork and innovation behind the aviation industry.

The day included behind-the-scenes experiences, industry talks and the chance to learn about the many pathways available in STEM, engineering and defence careers.
A huge thank you to Conrad from BAE Systems and Fighter World for providing such an engaging and inspiring experience for our students.
