Who’s heard of Atlassian? 🌐

Founded in Sydney in 2002, has grown into one of Australia’s greatest tech success stories. Today, the company serves more than 300,000 customers worldwide and has offices across the globe 🌍

Recently, our information technology students had the exclusive opportunity to visit Atlassian’s Sydney headquarters and gain valuable insights from industry professionals. Students heard from Zuli Posada, Issac Liu, Christopher Fathallah, Felix Montanari, and Nikhil Ahuja, who shared their expertise across cybersecurity, software development, machine learning and data science 💻📈

The panel provided students with a behind-the-scenes look at life at Atlassian, as well as practical advice on studying IT, building a successful career in tech and navigating the ever-evolving technology industry.

Where are they now? ✨🎓

Amelia, ICMS alumna, graduated with a Bachelor of Event Management after applying through UAC. She is thriving as the Assistant Director of Event Technology at Encore Event Technologies.

What stood out most about ICMS? 🫶
The most standout aspects were the people at ICMS. Amelia was constantly surrounded by like-minded individuals who shared similar goals and aspirations. She collaborated with driven, motivated peers who were genuinely committed to producing high-quality work. That culture of ambition and support not only strengthened her experience at ICMS but also played a key role in her personal and professional development.

Life After Graduation ⏭️
Today, Amelia is the Assistant Director of Event Technology at Encore Event Technologies, working in the dynamic world of audio-visual production. In her role, she collaborates closely with clients, hotel teams, and internal stakeholders to bring events to life – from planning and quoting through to on-the-day ex*****on.

Where are they now? ✨🎓

Jordan, ICMS alumnus, graduated with a Bachelor of Property (Development, Investment and Valuation) after applying through UAC. He is now working as a Business Development Representative at Salesforce, focusing on a real estate customer base ☁️🏠

Why ICMS? 📚
For Jordan, his decision came quickly after seeing the incredible Northern Beaches Campus. The location being local to him was also a huge plus. He studied with lots of the friends he grew up with, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Life After Graduation ⏭️
While studying, Jordan worked at Stone Real Estate as a Sales Agent. This gave him his foot in the door with sales and property. Then after completing his studies he worked as an Account Executive at ABC Bullion, where he ran the full sales cycle. This helped him discover a passion for sales outside of real estate. After a bit of travel he landed a job at Salesforce. His role combines his love for sales and property as he focuses as a real estate customer database. Day-to-day his role involves connecting with senior leaders and helping start strategic conversations around how technology can support their growth and operations 💻

Advice 💬
“Often, the experiences that challenge you the most are the ones that teach you the most about your strengths, your passions, and what you’re truly capable of. Some of the opportunities I’ve loved most came from taking chances I never imagined I would, and those leaps are what ultimately help you grow and succeed in ways you couldn’t have predicted.”

Our Cyber Security Essentials class got real-world insight from guest speaker Niv Engel, Security Principal Director and Head of APAC Cyber Readiness Response and Recovery (CRRR) at Accenture Cyber Security 🌐

During his 20+ years of experience across IT and cyber security, Niv has worked in areas such as security consulting, product implementation and hardening, ethical hacking, and threat hunting 💻

Students heard firsthand what it takes to stay ahead in the ever-evolving cyber landscape, learning from Niv’s experience leading cyber readiness across APAC, crisis management, incident response, and cyber threat intelligence.

Where are they now? ✨🎓

Zac, ICMS alumnus, graduated with a Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) after applying directly. He has been with the NRL for more than five years and is currently a Referee Development Officer.

Why ICMS? 📚
Coming from a small country town and having the dream of being an NRL referee required him to relocate to Sydney. Feeling safe and comfortable were two big factors on choosing where to study. The smaller class sizes at ICMS helped with this transition as he could make friends, feel supported and have a tailored learning experience.

Life After Graduation ⏭️
During his studies, Zac worked casually at the NRL and Sydney Swans, giving him his foot in the door of the sporting industry. His current role is dynamic and varies each day. Some days are spent in the office while others include school visits, clinics, running activations, gala days and working at events.

Advice 💬
“Network as much as possible. Talk to everyone – you never know who you’ll meet or where a conversation might lead. Your first job or internship might not be your dream role, but the experience you gain is invaluable. Say yes to opportunities and get involved wherever you can – it all adds up. ”
