SPE Monash Chapter

SPE Monash Chapter Monash University is starting a Society of Petroleum Engineers chapter at Clayton. Feel free to email [email protected] or message us for more info.

Hi everyone, we have started a Society of Petroleum Engineers chapter at Monash because all of us are missing out on oil and gas opportunities that students in other states like QLD and WA get due to their petroleum engineering degrees and proximity to the industry. We have support from the SPE professional chapter in Melbourne that consists of engineers from ExxonMobil, Schlumberger, Origin Energ

y and many more, and will be the only student chapter in Victoria. If you want increased exposure to people who work in oil and gas, learn about the industry and build great networks, sign up to be an SPE student member (link below and paid for by Chevron) and send your member number and name to our President; Deniz ([email protected]) or our Chapter email; [email protected] so we can register you in our student chapter. Please forward this to your friends who have an interest in the oil and gas industry and get them to send us their name and membership number. We will be having a launch event/mixer later this year with industry representatives, details to be confirmed. We plan to host technical seminars, site tours and careers nights this year when we are fully up and running! https://www.spe.org/…/SPEJoinR…/SPEMBRQualificationPage.aspx

Hello SPE members 😀
An interesting opportunity has arisen to anyone who is passionate about making change in the oil and gas industries. Between the 11th and the 17th of September there will be a forum held at Gubkin University in Moscow that will provide the best students from universities all around the world a chance to voice their opinions on current challenges of the world fuel industry. The Forum also provides the perfect opportunity to ask questions about professional development and serves as a medium into understanding the importance of educational internationalization to a sustainable world.
The official language of the forum is English. The chosen applicants will have accommodation and meals provided.
If you have any questions about the forum then check the official website:

We are proud to introduce our friends from STEM, and I think its great we can help out up and coming organisations that are thinking about the future like we are. I know my members are here for the community too, let's show our support for STEM.

STEM buddies is not-for-profit organisation that organises incentives such as to promote and inspire STEM within the primary school age group, including females and indigenous groups. We aim to inspire the younger generation to have realistic and positive views of STEM courses so they might pursue such a career in the future through workshops and meet-and-greets. University students in multiple STEM disciplines and volunteer to help nurture these kids on a personal level and act as a mentor to them to further develop their passion in STEM related subjects.

If you find this interesting, or would like to get involved, please do fill in a short google form (linked below) as an expression of interest (no commitment; just showing support):

Thank you!

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) was previously a field of which society misconceived to be occupied by an exclusive group of people. However, history has shown that the greatest ideas have originated from an array of diverse minds. Current curriculum in public schooling preve...

Hey guys,

I'm Jun, I will be your new president of SPE Monash chapter for 2017. In this upcoming year ahead, my committee and I hope to introduce a few new workshops, which would hopefully gear us up to be best candidates in our future workplaces. Workshops such as CV/resume writing, Excel (highly valuable in engineering and in every other sectors), Computer Coding, AUTOcad and lastly, run more field trips to industrial sites.

Note that for each workshop/event, there will be a form sent out for members to express their interest.

Anyway I would also like to kindly remind everyone to renew your memberships (it's free for students, same when you first signed up with us) by logging into your sep account for next year so that no one will miss out on all the workshops that will be valuable to you when you kickstart your career. I look forward to meeting you all personally at the the events next year and if there is something you would like us to organise, feel free to send us an email at [email protected] or message us on Facebook and we will try and work it out.

Best regards,
Jun
President of SPE Monash

Photos from our semester 2 site tour of the Woodside FutureLab, the research facility run by our 2016 Diamond Sponsor Woodside in Monash University.

The main aim of the research undertaken here is to utilise 3D printers to print the segments to repair them thus avoiding the need to send them for repair or buying new items. Different parts of a process or machine can be printed in situ with short fabrication and return times allowing for less downtime for operations.

As with many technologies that start with industrial applications 3D printing has become so popular that they can be bought and used within the home, allowing for the next generation of future thinkers to fabricate their creations like never before.

A reminder to members that we will be having our end of semester BBQ tomorrow in the EH courtyard outside the engineering computer labs from 12-2pm. Come down for a bite to eat and a drink!

Also, there are still roles open for next years committee, so if you are interested in taking a leadership position (one thing that all companies look for on a CV) just ask one of the friendly committee members and we can answer any questions you may have :)

Regards,
SPE Monash Chapter Team
