We’re excited to introduce the judging panel for our Evolving Hands: Robotics in Surgery Poster Competition Presentation Night!

Joining us are A/Prof Helen Mohan, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, Robotic and Colorectal Surgeon at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Austin Health; Prof Justin Yeung, Professor of Surgery and Chair of Surgery, Western Precinct; and Prof David Ackland, Deputy Head of Department (Research), Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

Together, they bring expertise across robotic surgery, colorectal surgery, surgical innovation, biomedical engineering and orthopaedic biomechanics, and we’re grateful to have them judging this year’s student presentations.

Come along to hear how emerging technologies are shaping the future of surgery! 🤖🩺

Starting internship next year? Come along to our Pre-Intern Networking Night and meet your future colleagues before you step onto the wards!

Hosted by SSSM, in collaboration with ASSA, Deakin and Monash student surgical committees, this event is open to incoming interns across Austin Health, St Vincent’s, RMH, Monash Health and The Alfred.

The evening will begin with information from representatives from RACS, Departments of Surgery and intern support teams, covering the support and resources available at each health service. The rest of the night will be dedicated to networking, giving you the chance to meet other incoming interns in a relaxed setting.

✅ Catering and food provided

SSSM’s annual Surgical Careers Night is back for 2026! 🩺
As one of SSSM’s flagship events of the year, Surgical Careers Night brings together medical students and surgeons from across a wide range of specialties for an evening of career insights, training pathways, specialty-specific advice and networking.

Across the night, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from clinicians working in Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Plastic Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Whether you already have a surgical specialty in mind or are just starting to explore your options, this is a rare opportunity to hear directly from surgeons about their careers and experiences in the field.

Join SSSM for our upcoming Cleft Palate Workshop, an interactive evening exploring the surgical management of cleft palate and the multidisciplinary care involved.

Come along to develop your understanding of cleft palate anatomy, assessment and surgical repair, while gaining practical insight into the principles behind reconstructive techniques and patient management.

Come along to the Surgical Students’ Society anatomy sketching event and learn the basics of drawing. Then, apply your new skills on real MSK specimens at the Harry Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy!

This is the first time this event has been run, and whether you’re a complete beginner or an expert sketcher, we’d love to see you there!
