G'day mate! Welcome to Sunshine Coast Health's newest international doctors joining their STEPP-IN program. STEPP-IN is their practical solution to helping internationally trained doctors already living in Australia enter our healthcare workforce.

For the next 12 weeks, eight doctors from Columbia, Egypt, Argentina, Sri Lanka and Nepal will observe, learn and build confidence within the Australian healthcare system, equipping them to step into clinical roles.

We are so proud at SCHI to be able to facilitate a program that consists of over 90 education sessions including three clinical simulations in the high-fidelity suites, hands-on practical skills sessions in topics such as plastering, suturing and ultrasound guided cannulation and two clinical ward rotations.

We wish the new doctors a wonderful experience not only here at work but outside soaking up the sand, sea and sun! 😎🏖

This week was World Health Day to mark the founding of the World Health Organisation. You may already know this, but this year's theme was 'Together for Health- Stand with Science', highlighting the importance of evidence-based choices in health policy and individual actions.

We hope through our vision of providing education, training and research in conjunction with healthcare partners (in Griffith Health, University of the Sunshine Coast, TAFE Queensland and Sunshine Coast Health ) working collaboratively we can improve the health of wellbeing of our Sunshine Coast communities and beyond. Our purpose is to support the development of an effective and efficient health workforce and healthcare service.

Whether we are co-desiging innovative models of care delivery using health systems science or adopting bench to bedside approaches to drive scientific discoveries through to clinical improvement, we are here to strengthen healthcare systems. You could almost say we are science enabling health solutions.

🐶 They Can't Escape The Pup-arazzi 🐶

The Wishlist Therapy dogs were going through their paces in the SCHI Simulation Suites before making their debut on the Sunshine Coast Health hospital wards this week.

We were lucky to meet Bob and Molly, the Golden Retriever, Callum and Bentley, the Dachshund who are part of the volunteer scwishlist therapy dogs program.

The program is changing lives by bringing wagging tails and warm hearts into hospital rooms to provide that connect and comfort for those who need it most.

We love this initiative and are so proud to support it through hospital simulation 🫶.

📣 Recipients of the Sunshine Coast Health Study, Education and Research Trust Fund (SERTF)—supported by Wishlist —have been announced! 🎉

Among the recipients is Sunshine Coast Health Associate Professor Priscilla Martin, General Surgeon and Co‑Lead of Phase 2 & 3 of the Griffith Health Doctor of Medicine Program at SCHI. 👩‍⚕️📘

A/Prof Martin, together with Dr Bree Stephensen and Andrew Hobbins King, has secured funding to support coordinated research across the General Surgery and Trauma departments. 🏥🤝

This funding will help progress key projects, including:
✨ Trauma research through the MAIC/University of the Sunshine Coast Road Safety Research Collaboration
✨ Surgical studies focused on appendicitis, colorectal cancer, and pancreatic cancer, drawing on local and national registry data

A huge congratulations to A/Prof Martin, Dr Stephensen and Dr Hobbins King on this fantastic achievement! 🙌👏
