Two undergraduates from the School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) have reached the finals of the annual engineering contest "Not-A-Boring Competition," organized by The Boring Company. The team, consisting of 19 students and researchers from various universities in Bangladesh, has developed an innovative Microtunnel Boring Machine (MTBM) for efficient excavation through an interdisciplinary approach, integrating robotics, mechanical, electrical, civil, and computer engineering.

The team, formed in 2023, competed against the University of Pennsylvania, Virginia Tech, ETH Zurich, and the University of Texas at Arlington. They received the 'Rookie Award' for their innovative idea and are now working on updating the device further. The team is committed to pioneering tunnel boring machine (TBM) technology in Bangladesh and aims to initiate TBM practices for excavation projects, road and highway repairs, and other infrastructure needs.
