Independent Economic Society-IES

IES is the official club of the Department of Economics at IUB. We strive to act democratically.

We connect you with the latest insights on local, regional, and national economic trends through expert talks, interactive workshops, and lively competitions. IES seeks to promote interest in the study of Economics and its applications to real world problems through interdisciplinary dialogue and debate among all students at Independent University, Bangladesh and beyond. With the understanding tha

t we live and learn in a state of imperfect government, we attempt to achieve true democracy in making decisions which affect our collective work. Furthermore, we strive to empower one another as individuals and as a collective through trust, patience, and an open spirit. We are working in coalition to build a grassroots student movement that challenges corporate power and that fights for economic justice. This coalition is loosely defined, thus we strive to act in coordination with one another to mobilize resources and build a national network while reserving the autonomy of individuals and campuses. We do not impose a single ideological position, practice, or approach. Rather, we aim to support one another in a spirit of respect for difference, shared purpose and hope. IES is an organization which strives to bring pertinent local, regional, and national economic information to the population. We regularly hold meetings that bring speakers to discuss current economic events.

Day 3 marked the final chapter of our Recruitment Booth for this semester at the Independent Economic Society.

Over the past few days, we met so many curious and motivated students who want to explore economics beyond textbooks and lectures. The conversations, questions, and enthusiasm we saw made this experience truly memorable.

Our offline recruitment is now officially closed for this semester. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, talked with us, and showed interest in joining the Independent Economic Society. Your energy and curiosity are what keep this community growing.

Day 1 is done and the journey has only just begun.

We’re truly grateful for the amazing response we received yesterday. It was a pleasure meeting so many enthusiastic, curious students at our booth.

We’re excited to welcome passionate minds into the Independent Economic Society and we’re officially recruiting!

The Independent Economics Society (IES), in collaboration with FeiHang Tech, hosted an AI-Powered Web App Creation Event to help students gain hands-on experience building real-world AI-driven web applications.

The session covered the evolution of AI and Generative AI, featured demos of tools like an AI photo generator, background remover, and an AI agent, and concluded with an interactive workshop where participants designed, refined, and published their own AI-powered web apps.
