New Beginnings, Shared Stories: English Department Welcomes Spring ’26! 🎊✨

The Department of English at CUB ditched the formal lecture hall vibes today for a high-energy Spring 2026 Meet & Greet! From floral welcomes to dramatic performances, our new cohort officially found their home on campus.

Here’s a look at how we kicked off the semester:💥💥

A Personal Welcome: Department Chair Rezina Sultana, Dean Dr. Parvez Ahmed, and the Registrar shared inspiring words, setting a tone of mentorship and collaboration.🎉💫

The Peer Connection: Seniors Tamanna Jahan and Raha Tabassum shared the "real" survival guide to the first semester, bridging the gap between batches.❤️‍🩹

📊Mastering the System: Our Exam Controller and Program Officer demystified Academic Regulations and the UMS, turning "tech stress" into confidence.

🎬Creativity in Action: The highlight of the day! Students brought their coursework to life. From original non-fiction by Thui to a dramatic Dr. Faustus excerpt by Rono and Robo, and a hilarious Mind Your Language skit by Rumman, Marina, and Tahsin—the talent was undeniable!

We’re more than just a department; we’re a family. Welcome to the journey, Spring ’26!🌹

The English Department of the Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB), together with its energetic Language Club, hosted a beautiful two-part event on November 27, 2025, mixing essential safety training with a joyful Children's Day celebration.

The day started with an earthquake and safety awareness session, opened by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. H. M. Jahirul Haque.
Mr. Reza Ahmed Chowdhury from the Red Crescent led the training, giving everyone clear, practical guidance on how to stay safe during emergencies.

Right after, the mood turned warm and festive as students welcomed children from Ten Members School under the "ভালো কাজের হোটেল " initiative. A young cancer survivor shared their brave journey, a student spoke about rising from hardship to education. Social activist Arifur Rahman encouraged everyone to do “one good deed every day,”and a little girl ended the program with a sweet dance that lit up the room.

BoT Vice Chairman Chowdhury Jafarullah Sharafat appreciated the department's efforts and promised CUB's continued support for "ভালো কাজের হোটেল ".

The event beautifully reflected CUB's spirit—caring, responsible, and community-focused, ending with a warm vote of thanks from the Head of Department Rezina Sultana.

Our English Department held a lovely 'Meet and Greet' on Thursday to welcome the new Fall 2025 students into the family.

The event was all about helping the freshers feel at home by giving them a friendly introduction to Department life, what the academic environment and overall vibe are like.
It also addressed the basic do's and don'ts to help them start their journey smoothly.

The program kicked off with a heartfelt welcome from the Head of the Department, Rezina Sultana ,who thanked the students for choosing CUB and encouraged them to enjoy every moment of their time here. The faculty then shared some warm, insightful messages, presented in a fun 'fairy giving blessings' style , focusing on good academic habits and the values that shape the department.

One of the liveliest parts of the event was our very own 'English Language Club' segment, where members introduced different clubs, including the Drama, Reading, and Cultural Clubs. They encouraged the freshers to join and explore new ways to learn and express themselves.

The program ended on a joyful note with a cultural session where many of the new students took the stage and sang beautifully. Their performances added energy and excitement, making it a memorable first event for everyone. ✨🎉

"The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion."
—Albert Camus

Today we celebrate the birth of Albert Camus (November 7, 1913 – Mondovi, Algeria), the celebrated French novelist, essayist, and playwright. He is best known for classics such as L'Étranger (The Stranger, 1942), La Peste (The Plague, 1947), and La Chute (The Fall, 1956), as well as his passionate involvement in social and political causes. In 1957, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his profound contribution to literature.

🌟 🎭 Tuesday morning, October 14, was full of energy and excitement at the Canadian University of Bangladesh as the English Department celebrated a Drama Day!

Students from the Introduction to Drama course took the stage to perform their own creative adaptations of Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus and they absolutely nailed it! 🔥

There were three amazing teams, each bringing a different part of the story to life:

Rohan's team performed Act 1, Scene 3 and Act 2, Scene 1 — The Summoning of Mephistophilis and The Blood Contract.

Maria's team wowed the audience with Act 2, Scene 3 — The Parade of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Tasmiah's team delivered an emotional ending with Act 5, Scene 2 — The Final Hour.

Each group wrote and directed their own scripts, showing off their creativity, teamwork, and passion for theatre. The audience loved every moment, the applause said it all! 👏

This event was more than just a performance; it was a celebration of imagination, hard work, and friendship. It reminded everyone that learning can be fun, expressive, and full of life.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful faculty members for their constant guidance and encouragement and a special shoutout to our amazing Department Head, Rezina Sultana Ma'am, for her inspiring leadership and for making this event possible. ❤️

It was truly a memorable morning, one that brought Doctor Faustus to life and left the whole department inspired! ✨

" I must make up my mind which is right – society or I."
—Henrik Ibsen, A Doll's House

Even though 'A Doll's House' was written more than a hundred years ago, it still speaks to us today, reminding us to look beyond the surface of relationships, question women's roles in society, and recognize the invisible cages we sometimes create in our own lives.

The English Department of Canadian University of Bangladesh proudly hosted an inspiring seminar titled "Relevance of Henrik Ibsen to Bangladesh."

We were truly honored to have with us, Professor Ahmed Ahsanuzzaman (IUB)

Ms. Marianne Rabe Knævelsrud (Deputy Head of Mission, Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka)

Ms. Zohora Farzana Ahmed Bipasha (Communications & Culture Adviser)

Professor Ahmed Ahsanuzzaman delighted the audience by presenting his directed work Ninaad (A Doll's House) and shared his thoughtful insights with students. Ms. Knævelsrud beautifully highlighted how such programs strengthen cultural ties between Bangladesh and Norway.

A heartfelt thanks goes to our respected HoD, Mrs. Rezina Sultana Ma'am, for her guidance, and of course to our 'Drama Club' for their outstanding performance that brought Ibsen's timeless play to life on stage! ✨

And the grand finale? The cultural program was an absolute cherry on top!

It created such a wonderful bond between students and teachers, filling the room with energy, joy, and spirit.

It was a splendid evening celebrating literature, art, and connection. Here's to many more! ❤️🙌
