Today, we mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, a global moment of solidarity and resistance for LGBTQIA+ communities.
⚫65 UN member States still criminalise consensual same-s*x s*xual acts.
⚫ At least 62 restrict freedom of expression on s*xual orientation, gender identity and expression, and s*x characteristics issues.
⚫ Legal gender recognition based on self-determination is only available in 18 countries at the national level.
⚫Only 9 UN member States restrict unnecessary medical interventions on inters*x minors at the national level.
Thus, this year's theme from International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia is "At the Heart of Democracy".
Democracy is built in parliaments just as much as in schools, public squares, community centres, and online spaces, by people who refuse to be erased.
