The Department of Computer Applications of IEM organized a 36-hour offline hackathon, “Hack{0}lution.” It was an open-theme hackathon where participants from various colleges came together to develop innovative and impactful projects.

Several workshops were conducted during the event, where industry experts shared their knowledge and guided the participants throughout the journey. Additionally, mini-events such as the “HackNest Mini Event” and “Most Engaging Social Media Post” were organized alongside the main hackathon to keep the participants engaged and motivated.

Participants were evaluated and awarded by the judges based on technical implementation, creativity, problem-solving approach, presentation, and overall impact of their projects.

BCA department of IEM recently hosted an exciting AI-themed hackathon, “BOT TO AGENT,” organized in collaboration with MLH Hackdays. The event brought together talented hackers from reputed colleges for an intense 8-hour hacking sprint, where participants demonstrated their ability to think creatively and build innovative solutions under pressure.

In addition to the main hackathon, engaging mini-events such as Best Active Hacker and a HackerRank challenge added to the competitive spirit, with enthusiastic participation from attendees.

The event concluded with recognition of the most outstanding teams and individuals. Participants who showcased exceptional innovation and demonstrated intelligent automation through their projects were honored by the esteemed panel of judges.

Celebrating Strength, Wisdom, and Inspiration – Women's Day 2026 🌸

The Women’s Day Celebration held on 11th March 2026 at the IEM Ashram Campus, Kolkata was a truly inspiring and enriching event. The programme aimed to celebrate the achievements, strength, and contributions of women in society while encouraging meaningful conversations on health, mental well-being, and empowerment.

We were honoured to welcome our distinguished guests:

✨ Dr. Suchismita Sinha, Lecturer and Consultant of Psychology and HoD of Sarojini Naidu College for Women, West Bengal, who shared valuable insights on mental health, emotional resilience, and the importance of psychological well-being among women.

✨ Dr. Sayantanee Sengupta, Assistant Professor at IPGMER and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata. A highly experienced Gynecologist and Obstetrician with over 15 years of experience (MBBS, MD – O&G), she spoke about women’s health.

✨ Ms. Anamika Kuri Pramanik, a profound vocalist, was also present whose melodious words added warmth and cultural vibrancy to the celebration.

The programme provided a platform for students and faculty members to reflect on the importance of empowering women through education, health awareness, and social support. It was a memorable celebration filled with learning, inspiration, and appreciation for the remarkable role women play in shaping our society.

The students of the Department of Computer Applications, IEM Kolkata came together to celebrate Basanta Utsav 2026, welcoming the vibrant season of spring with immense enthusiasm and cultural spirit.

The celebration beautifully blended technology and tradition, as students expressed the essence of Basanta through soulful poetry recitations, graceful dance performances, and melodious songs 🎶. On the occasion of National Science Day, the IEDC Lab of the BCA Department organized a Project Presentation Programme to encourage innovation, research, and practical implementation of technical knowledge among students.

The event provided a platform for students to present and demonstrate their innovative projects before an expert judge. The programme was judged by Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay, an IITian and IISERian, 2x TEDx Speaker, Chair of IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter IIT Kharagpur, and Google Developer Expert in AI & Google Cloud. He is associated with IIT Kharagpur AI4ICPS I Hub Foundation and is widely recognized for his contributions to Artificial Intelligence and research.

Several innovative projects were showcased during the programme, including:
• RAG
• Braille OS
• Analysis of Cryptocurrency Price Prediction using Hybrid Model
• CatBoost-Based Intelligent Threat Detection for Browser Security
• Smart Urban Traffic Management using Predictive Signal Control
• 3D Printer
• MCI Classification Using Machine Learning
• IoT-based Smart Dustbin
• Fire Monitoring & Detection with Multiple Sensors and Computer Vision through CCTV

Each team confidently explained their problem statement, methodology, technical implementation, and real-world applications. The judge appreciated the students’ technical depth, creativity, and practical approach, while also providing valuable feedback for future enhancement.

The programme was a great success and reflected the scientific temperament, innovation, and research-oriented mindset of the BCA students. The event truly celebrated the spirit of National Science Day by promoting knowledge, technology, and innovation.
