Proudly, some of these honours were claimed by members of UBaDEC, a testament to consistent training, discipline, and growth at club level.

Beyond the awards, something even more powerful happened.
Students who had only been passing by stopped to listen.
Those who never imagined themselves debating stayed to watch.
Curiosity turned into interest. Interest turned into passion.

Because of the January Debate, new members joined, voices were discovered, and debate gained new ground across the University of Bamenda and the North West Region.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Master Rhetoric Association (MRA) Debate circuit for journeying from Buea, for investing time, resources, and intention, and for giving our members, especially the new ones, a real taste of competitive debate. The experience was invaluable.

Thank you to the University of Bamenda, our coach, trainers, and every participant who showed up ready to learn and grow. Seeing our members apply what they’ve been taught and even refine their understanding in competition reminded us why debate matters.

The impact has been massive.
The testimonials say it all.
And the love for debate and public speaking is only growing. 🗣️✨

🔥 𝐉𝐀𝐍𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝐃𝐄𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐄 | 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐑 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐒 🔥

What started as a workshop quickly transformed into a mini debate tournament and the room came alive.

With over 60 participants, the space became a testing ground for ideas.
First time speakers found their footing.
Experienced debaters adapted fast.
Arguments clashed, perspectives shifted, and confidence grew in real time.

Institutions across Bamenda showed up, proving that debate is not about where you come from, but how well you think, listen, and respond.

You could tell who had debated before, not by volume, but by adaptability.
And you could tell who was new, not by fear, but by courage.

This was not just competition.
It was learning under pressure and that’s where growth happens.💥

The day began with the public speaking semi finals, setting the tone for a high energy , skill driven competition. 5 debate groups were formed and each comprised of 4 houses as the system demands, creating a dynamic area a where strategy, teamwork and quick thinking wérè put to test.

The January Debate did not begin with trophies.
It began with learning.

At the University of Bamenda, participants from different institutions including CATUC, BUST, and secondary school teachers gathered, some experienced, many new but united by one goal: to understand how ideas are built, challenged, and defended.

The Master Rhetoric Association (MRA) led participants through the fundamentals of debating, breaking down structure, logic, and delivery. Day One opened with an intensive session facilitated by Mr. Godlove, who taught participants how to debate in any scenario, regardless of the system, focusing on making participants understand what an argument is and how is can be broken down for better understanding.

Dr. Lawong Kendra Yaah, Coach of UBaDEC, conducted a public speaking session, emphasizing that voice without clarity is noise, and that clarity is built through preparation, discipline, and intentional practice.

Mr. Charles Nama described the British Parliamentary system, explained the roles of each member, and instructed adjudicators on how debates are judged and scored.
By the end of Day One, something had shifted.
Debate stopped feeling intimidating and started feeling possible.

This was groundwork.
And it mattered. 🗣️✨

✨ 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 ,𝐀 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 ✨

When the Master Rhetoric Association (MRA) decided to journey from Buea to Bamenda, it wasn’t just for an event it was for a relationship.

Beyond partnering with the University of Bamenda for the January Debate, MRA chose to come a day before, spend extra time, and incur additional costs just to stand with UBaDEC during the swearing in of our new executive bureau. That decision speaks louder than words 💙.

Their presence during the installation wasn’t ceremonial,it was intentional.
They showed up to affirm leadership, encourage consistency, and remind us that debate communities grow through support, not distance.

And it didn’t end there.
MRA went further to reward dedication, covering membership registration for three outstanding debaters, a clear message that excellence is seen and celebrated .

There was no better person to inaugurate this executive than Dr. Wandji representative of the Vice Chancellor to the club and our coordinator. A debate trainer whose have crossed borders, platforms, and generations; from international debate floors to national television, mentoring young voices and shaping confident leaders.

Today, he passes the torch with wisdom earned, not claimed.
Thank you, Dr. wandji, for dishing out this knowledge be inaugurating this new chapter.

The University of Bamenda Debate Club officially ushered in a new leadership team during a formal installation ceremony held in the presence of members, technical advisers, and club stakeholders.

The installation was conducted by Dr. Wandji Elvis, Club Coordinator and representative of the Vice Chancellor, marking the official transition of leadership and the beginning of a new chapter for UBaDEC.

We were equally honored by the presence and support of the Master Rhetoric Association (MRA), who journeyed from Buea to Bamenda to stand with the club during this milestone. Beyond their role in supporting the inauguration process, MRA demonstrated meaningful commitment by sponsoring the registration of three UBaDEC members a gesture that speaks to their belief in debate development and youth excellence.

With leadership entrusted and responsibility accepted, the work has truly begun.

Weeks of preparation. Real conversations. A decisive moment.

Over 60 debaters gathered as the University of Bamenda Debate Club held its elections not just to vote, but to shape the future of the club 🗳️🗣️

This moment also allowed us to celebrate the outgoing leadership, whose dedication and service strengthened the club and laid the foundation for this transition 🙏🏽 Their work made it possible for members to confidently renew the mandate and usher in a new chapter.

This activity was cordinator by the YILT Cameroon Chapter .From engagement to accountability, the process reflected what UBaDEC stands for: structure, credibility, and debate culture in action 💪🏽

Leaders were chosen. A new chapter began.

We chose to begin sharing our updates with this moment of joy 🥳🥳🥳

The year has barely begun, and UBaDEC is already setting the pace.

What was initially planned as a two day workshop evolved into a Mini Debate Tournament, hosted at the University of Bamenda and organized by the Master Rhetoric Association (MRA), all the way from Buea. Our debaters rose to the challenge and delivered excellence:

With participation from different schools and universities across the North West, including UBaDEC, BUST, and CATUC, the tournament proved one thing:
