Sonia Mendes De Assuncao, a graduate of the second cohort of the programme at the Faculty of Medicine, has developed a strong interest in dermatology and aesthetic medicine through her clinical rotations, and aims to obtain medical licenses in Macau and Hong Kong for her future practice.
She shares: “From the first anatomy lab to bedside clinical training, has shaped every step of my journey. Over six years of lectures, clinical clerkships across multiple hospitals and clinics — including a year-long internship at a local hospital — I gradually came to understand the true meaning of medicine. Growing up with a family member in the public eye taught me early on to stay grounded and let my work speak for itself — a lesson I carried through every ward and consultation.
Rotating through internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, and more, each department offered a different lens on patient care. I found myself particularly drawn to dermatology and aesthetic medicine, where science and artistry intersect. Looking ahead, I hope to obtain medical licenses in both Macau and Hong Kong, pursue further training in general practice, and eventually specialise in a field that truly resonates with me. I also remain open to overseas opportunities to deepen my knowledge.
I am deeply grateful to the patients who taught me more than any textbook, the residents who refined my clinical skills, and the professors who pushed me to grow even when I felt uncertain. MUST gave me the foundation to become a better listener, a harder worker, and a more compassionate human being. Thank you for every ordinary moment that quietly shaped me.”

她分享：「從初次踏進解剖實驗室，到病床邊的臨床訓練，科大見證了我每一步的成長。六年課堂研習、穿梭多間醫院及診所的見習，加上在本地醫院為期一年的實習，讓我逐步領略醫學的真諦。由於家人是公眾人物，使我從小學會腳踏實地，以工作證明自己——這份信念一直伴隨我度過每個病房與診症時刻。
我曾輪換內科、外科、兒科、婦產科等不同部門，每個專科皆以獨特視角，讓我更深刻體察病患所需。我尤為鍾情皮膚科與醫學美容，因為這兩者正是科學與藝術的完美交匯。展望未來，我期望考取澳門與香港兩地的醫生執照，先接受全科培訓，並最終專攻一個真正讓我熱愛的領域。我也不排除赴海外進修，以吸收更多知識與經驗。
我由衷感恩每一位病人——他們教會我的，遠超任何教科書所能承載；感謝駐院醫生助我磨練臨床技巧；感謝教授在我迷惘時繼續推動我前行。科大為我奠下堅實根基，使我成為一個更懂得聆聽、更勤奮、更具同理心的人。謹此感謝每一個看似平常、卻在無聲中塑造我的時刻。」
