Conservation Medicine is the science that studies the relationships between ecological problems and human, animal and environmental health, while promoting the interdisciplinary biomedical investigation and education of the Epidemiology of animal wildlife diseases and their conservation (Aguirre et al., 2002). The conservation efforts and the understanding of why emerging diseases are broadening t
heir distribution requires an interdisciplinary focus that can cover the complexities of environmental, social, medical, ecological, economic and political aspects that challenge today’s world. In this way, the environmental problems are analyzed, not only centered on human welfare, but also considering the health of ecosystems essential for the sustainability of humans in the biosphere (Bonacic, 2001). Costa Rica is recognized for its biological diversity and for being a leading country in the conservation of natural resources, which makes it an ideal setting for the development of the Masters in Conservation Medicine which takes into account regional and worldwide tendencies in conservation of natural resources and indoctrinates professionals which work directly or indirectly with wildlife.
