Which actors and narratives shape the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Brazil?
In the new DFG research project “Spreading the Antidote - The Framing of COVID- 19 Vaccination Campaigns in the Brazilian Social Media Sphere” we investigate social media communication about the vaccination campaign in Brazil together with researchers from the Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos, in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

In the project, we want to identify opinion leaders, themes, and false information with qualitative and quantitative methods to develop strategies for providing the entire Brazilian population with reliable information about the Covid-19 vaccination. It’s in Germany! A good moment for us to reflect on how can foster or impede diversity. helps us to uncover and understand possible impediments and inform our behavior to make a difference. For example, social movements like can contribute to more equality. At the same time, hate speech might silence voices and cause harm. What do you think about social media and diversity?

Contact tracing apps or sharing information on social media are just two examples of using technology during crises. Pandemics, natural disasters, or cyber threats require us to think about the resilience of our systems and how technology can support crisis response.
But we’re not just thinking about it, we’re also co-hosting a workshop on “Mobile Resilience: Designing Mobile Interactive Systems for Crisis Response” at MobileHCI 2021! So, if you’d like to share and discuss your research in this domain, submit an abstract or short paper until 31st May 2021. Find more info on the Call for Papers here: https://bit.ly/3tBcjoh

Ever had a discussion with a scientist via social media? Chances are increasing since scientists communicate more than ever on Twitter & Co during the ongoing pandemic. Such science-related information is an important part of the public health debate. But how do scientists shape online communication and what’s the role of emotions? And (how) can we spot black sheep who spread mis- and disinformation under the guise of research? We’re looking into these questions in our newly approved DFG project together with Nicole Krämer from UDE (Sozialpsychologie: Medien und Kommunikation, Universität Duisburg-Essen) and Monika Taddicken from TU Braunschweig.
