WEEK 1 UPDATE‼️

This last weekend, all 10 of our Fall 2026 Climb students arrived safely to the Dominican Republic to kick off this 16 week semester! Take a look at what the first week in the DR looked like for us:

On Sunday, we all went to church together at a local pastor friends church and the students got their first exposure to Dominican Church and being pretty lost during the sermon. Although overwhelming, they will all grow so much in their knowledge and retention of Spanish! In the afternoon we took a tour of campus, the surrounding area, and the beach before we had Climb orientation to lay out the expectations and experiences of this semester.

On Monday, we headed to San Jose to where our Bible professor lives with his family. Dr. McClure has lived in the Dominican Republic for the last 17 years and has dedicated his life to building a church and making disciples in his community, helping other churches and pastors plant churches, teaching about missions and the Bible all over the world, and writing his own work. We are very lucky to have him guide us this semester through what is global missions and a college course on biblical hermeneutics throughout the four gospels. The students spent the afternoon with him getting to hear about his life, his ministry, and an introduction to what a missionary is and what our call as believers is.

On Tuesday, we headed back out to San Jose in the morning for an entire morning and afternoon of continued teaching from Dr. McClure. He laid out an extremely elaborate presentation of the gospel to display Gods existence pre-creation, the creation of mankind and our purpose, the fall of man, and the plan for salvation. He challenges students to challenge their own preconceived notions and beliefs about what they have known or believed to make them into better thinkers and readers of the Bible and find the truth of God in His word. We wrapped up with some cultural training about cross cultural ministry and specifically cultural aspects they will experience living in the Dominican Republic. It was a great way to kick off training before starting!

On Wednesday, we started our ministry with two sites! In the morning, we headed up the road to Lily House to meet the girls and get to know the ministry. The students helped to teach a brief lesson on the Good Samaritan and then interacted with the girls, practicing some Spanish. Then, we participated in a fun scavenger hunt partnered with them. In the afternoon, we headed to Pasitos to meet the girls at the girls orphanage. We arrived and got to know them which very quickly turned into playing and dancing. We briefly organized a time to learn names and get to know them and the students have a lot of names to learn!

On Thursday, we had our first full day off classes and packed in two Spanish classes. We are started off very basic to review a lot and moving slow but soon will gain more memory of previous knowledge and confidence to speak comfortably.

On Friday, we had a fun excursion day together to get out and get to know each other and see more of Santo Domingo. We went to the Zoo and had a blast walking around and seeing some peculiar animals. Then, we headed to the mall for the students to get some already craved American fast food. It was great to spend the day together and we had a blast!

On Saturday morning, the students Spanish professor came and spent time with them sharing about his life and giving encouragement on the importance of learning Spanish, applied to our lives and calling as believers. We are so fortunate to have such gifted and faithful professors. In the afternoon, we went to Consuelo to partner with a church to assist with the kids ministry. The students did AMAZING, as they helped be the houses for a teaching on Matthew 7, brought the energy for the kids, assisted with crafts, and overall did a great job connecting and teaching.

Today, we went to church together and have had a sabbath day of rest, some beach time, some hanging out together, some homework, and getting ready for our first small group.

CLIMB IS BACK‼️

Our Fall 2026 class of students is here and we are already kicking off the semester with 10 students from 7 different states ready to start their 16 weeks of learning Spanish, experiencing a new culture, expanding their worldview and biblical knowledge, growing in their faith, and using their gifts to serve in ministry.

Please be praying for these students as we kick off this new experience for them that their lives can be transformed, their minds can be renewed, their gifts and experiences can be put to use, and the love of God can be seen in them and through them.

We just finished our Spring 2026 semester in the DR❗️

Take a look at a recap of some of the amazing relationships built, ministry accomplished, and memories made. This group was so special and they reached many lives with the gospel truth and love of Christ and were blessed and grown in return. So grateful for this class and so excited to see what God does in and through our future students coming this Fall!!🙌🏼

FINAL WEEKLY UPDATE‼️

We have entered our very last week of the Spring 2026 Climb semester🥲 take a look at how our students spent this last week here before heading home!

On Monday, we went to Village 14 for our last visit. It was a holiday here so everyone was off and home and we went to the community and spent some time with them. They gathered at the church and the students led worship and shared some about their time here as well as some encouraging verses for the community. They expressed their gratitude for our visits and we got to pray with them then spend time with the kids before leaving.

On Tuesday, we had our last full day of class as well studied in Spanish class for the final exam for both classes. We reviewed stories we read and went over some vocabulary and tenses before they took the exam. In Bible class, they had their second to last class as they wrapped up teachings on Paul's letters.

On Wednesday, we all went to Lily House to do an English class with the girls there. The students all helped with the activities reviewing many of the categories the girls were taught this semester and played some games with them. The students level of Spanish has given them the ability to not only converse but also to teach English in Spanish and it was a huge help to the girls and a lot of fun. In the afternoon, we had our last Wednesday visit to Pasitos as some of the students had to say goodbyes. Erin brought letters that her students from the U.S. wrote to the girls and we gave them the letters to read and respond to. The students helped the girls translate the letters and respond to them which Erin will bring back to her students in a really beautiful exchange.

On Thursday, the students had their final Bible class with Dr. McClure to do presentations on projects and finish up the course. They learned so much from him and his incredible knowledge and gift for teaching with stories and experiences. It was such a blessing to have him as a Bible professor. At dinner, we spent time with two missionary friends who we have gotten so close to and said our goodbyes. In the evening after dinner, we all went to Lily House and had a game night with the girls and played volleyball with them for a few hours.

On Friday, the students had the morning and afternoon off to pack and clean and get ready. Later in the afternoon, we all left for the capital for one last excursion together. We went to the market to get last minute gifts and memorabilia then had our last dinner all together at the students favorite pizza place. When we got back, we had our final presentation and recognition night where the students shared about their experiences this semester and we reflected on our time with slides, awards, pictures, videos, letters, and lots of laughs.

On Saturday, we all went together to take Erin to the airport and said goodbye to her, our newest student and first one to leave. In the evening, we all joined a group to go to a youth service in San Pedro to help with games, the message, and discussion afterwards. It was a really powerful service and great time together.

On Sunday, Enacent left at 3:30am for his early flight home. The remaining 3 students went to church in Boca Chica to say goodbye to leaders and youth from the church then Pasitos afterwards to spend the last few hours with the girls before saying goodbye. We said our goodbyes and got to pray with them and be prayed over by them and left to take Taylor to the airport.

Our last two students leave tomorrow to officially end this semester! This semester has been filled with incredible moments we will never forget. As a group, we faced challenges, we accomplished big things, reached so many ministry sites and lives with the gospel, developed deep connections, built lifelong friendships, and had so many meaningful moments and laughs in between. God has been so good to us and has used each of the students so beautiful with their gifts to serve others and glorify God. We feel so privileged to have received these students and spent a semester together, and two semesters for some of them.

Thank you parents, family, and friends for your prayers and support for the program and the students. They have been a part of a big impact and powerful ministry here and their lives have been changed by this place and these people. Continue to pray for them as they reenter into the U.S. and face new challenges and opportunities that the seeds planted here will grow and they will use their knowledge and experiences from here to be a light and blessing to their surrounding community back home.

SECOND TO LAST WEEK UPDATE‼️

We are wrapping up our Spring 2026 semester in the DR😭 take a look at what we did this week!!

On Monday, we went to Emmanuel House for the last time this semester since next tomorrow there is no class. As usual, we were outside with the kids at recess then the students went to help in their classrooms in Preschool, Kindergarten, and older English class. They gave their energy and patience one last week with the kids to pour out love for them and help the teachers! We met with the founder and director who expressed her gratitude and shared such a beautiful word about Gods faithfulness and blessing for the students.

On Tuesday, the students had the morning off to work on classes and homework then they had Bible class in the afternoon with their professor. Afterwards, we had Spanish class and did an activity in which the students reflected on their experience here this semester using 3 different tenses. Afterwards, we played Hot Seat in Spanish and they used their vocabulary to give guessing clues. In the evening, two SCORE translators and dear friends of our group came to hang out and make Dominican pasta. A chill hang out turned into an intense Nerf gun war and a Group call all in the same room.

On Wednesday, we headed to Lily House to do some work. The students had the fun task of cleaning the turf rugs that the bunny rabbits went to the bathroom on. These guys didn't complain and got straight to work scrubbing. They helped around with some others tasks then headed back. In the afternoon, we went to Pasitos and hung out with the girls. Some sat and talked and others played very intense games of the girls being wild!

On Thursday, they had the morning off and Bible class in the afternoon. In the evening, we headed to Consuelo to join our missionary friends to go out and evangelize. The rain prohibited us from going out into the neighborhood but we gathered in the church with the Pastor and his family and some members of the congregation. We shared the gospel with two kids of the community and then had a time of prayer praying for the Pastor, his family and the church. Afterwards, we got Pica Pollo on the way back.

On Friday, we left early for Quiskeya to meet the Pastora in her own community and go out to shared the gospel in her neighborhood. We split into two groups and both groups had very touching moments where we got to meet people and enter into their homes who had experienced recent suffering or loss and we were able to bring a message of hope through salvation. It is such a powerful experience to go and briefly get to know people in their homes and share the truth and hope of God in difficult seasons.

On Saturday, the students had their final class with their in person Spanish professor. They got to do some review for their final exam and spend time with him who has been such a gift to us and a great role model. Later in the day, we headed back to Consuelo to do a program for the kids ministry. The students helped lead games and teaching as we broke out puppets for the first time to teach the story of Jonah and ask some questions. It was a great teaching and the students thrived in their speaking and sharing. Afterwards, we got to connect with the kids playing and even put on a little worship concert with them.

On Sunday, the students all went to church with missionaries or locally here then spent the day relaxing and resting. We have our last small group all together as we reflect on this experience and prepare for our last week all together!

Please be praying for the students as they enter this last week and face some emotional goodbyes and heavy moments but prepare to enjoy their time here and be a light this coming week!!

WEEKLY RECAP‼️

Coming to you with another amazing week here in the DR!!

On Monday, the students went to Emmanuel House only to find it was teacher evaluation day and there was no class nor kids😮 but they got to meet and pray with the director regardless then come back and enjoy their afternoon free. Some went on a beach walk trip/ photo shoot with some of our friends from Lily House.

On Tuesday, we had a full day of class with two Spanish classes and a long Bible class. Continuing to learn tenses they haven't yet learned and increasing repitieron of tenses. They have improved and learned so much!

On Wednesday, we headed to Lily House in the morning to fix an outer wall net that had fallen as well as doing some painting. The students have definitely expanded their labor work skills and put it all to use! In the afternoon, we went to Pasitos and had a very chill time connecting with them. Lots of conversations and catch ups after some time away and always fighting over the adorable baby!

On Thursday, we had a full day of class with Spanish class in the morning, Bible class in the afternoon, and Spanish class again in the afternoon. In Spanish, we reviewed for the exam and went over readings and comprehension skills the students have learned and in Bible class, they continued with Paul's letters and mapped out the end of the year projects. In the evening, the Lily House staff invited us to a surprise thank you game night and dinner where they expressed their gratitude for our time, connections and service and we ate great food and played fun games. It was so incredibly thoughtful and generous and fun!

On Friday, the students had the day off to relax and work on homework or hang out with the girls at Lily House and the cafe all day! They love spending time their and talking and hanging out with the staff and girls at the ministry.

On Saturday, we had a long excursion and ministry day. We left early for the capital to visit Tres Ojos lakes and caves and explored some beautiful scenery! Then we headed to the mall for a fun trip and to satisfy some gr**go cravings of fast food! Afterwards, we went to the girls orphanage in the capital and visited them for the last time this semester. We played a fun Bible trivia game then taught Bible stories and groups and acted them out! It was a blast and a beautiful way to end our time with them, it has been such a blessing and we are so excited to return with future groups!

On Sunday, the students went to various churches on campus or with missionaries then spent the day resting. We ended the week with a great small group lesson and discussion on justification by faith not works and reflected on this incredible gift we have received and life we are called to!

It was a fantastic week and we are sad but excited to take on the last two weeks of the program here in the DR!

WEEK 15 RECAP‼️

A strange week this week as we got back on normal schedule after some different routines but a great week together as a group!

On Monday, there was no school for a holiday here so the students stayed home and rested and got ahead on homework. In the afternoon, we all headed to San Pedro to go to Jumbo to get some more food and snacks at the store. The dining commons was closed this week so we came up with meals and enjoyed the process!

On Tuesday, we had our first day of normal class back after some time off. We had Spanish 102 in the morning and learned two new and very complex tenses which the students did a great job learning and practicing! They are now able to conjugate over 10 tenses and forming complex sentences with a variety of conjugations and vocabulary. They had a few hours of Bible class with Dr. Craig after a long time off and we finished the day with Spanish 220 class where the students did a lot of speaking and reflecting on the past two weeks and all the unique experiences they had to speak and practice Spanish! In the evening, they hung out and played some games together.

On Wednesday, we went early to Quiskeya to join a pastor there to continue our evangelism efforts in that community. With this last trip, we reached all the members of the community who were home and the pastor knew. It has been such a gift to have the opportunity to go out and reach a community that is known and loved by a local leader and for us to be able to fulfill our call to share the gospel and make disciples. It has been a learning and growing process for our students to get more comfortable sharing the gospel in English and Spanish, praying with and for people, and learning the value of sharing Gods word by planting seeds and praying for growth. After that, the students were treated with some McDonald's. In the afternoon, we went to Pasitos and spent some great time with them doing an arrangement of activities. We had time holding babies, having conversations and catching up with the girls, some English lessons, some dancing, and some volleyball. Always great to see them!

On Thursday, the students had combined Spanish classes in the morning and had more opportunities to learn and practice some tenses they have learned and respond to some prompts to get them thinking on their feet and speaking. Then they had the afternoon of Bible classes and online classes.

On Friday, they headed to Lily House in the morning to help with some projects where they are always available and ready to work, clean, organize, paint, or serve in any capacity. In the evening, some headed with the girls there to a youth service.

On Saturday, the students took an excursion with the SCORE Missionaries! They got to take a long road trip to go try some good mofongo and natural juices and enjoy a beautiful scenery. It was great to have more opportunity to connect with the missionaries and their families and spend time together. As you can see, they have become brothers and sister and gotten very comfortable, especially when they have to cram into the bus!

On Sunday, they attended church at various locations with some missionaries and got to spend the day relaxing before Bible study and devotions tonight.

Another amazing week grateful to be in the DR with the Climb program and having such unique and incredible opportunities to experience, serve, learn and grow! Stay tuned for next weeks update!

WEEK 14 UPDATE‼️

This week was a bit different for us and very jam packed and active after a Spring break vacation but it was so much fun and the students thrived!

This week was Johnson Ferry week at SCORE, where well over 300 high school students and adults from the Atlanta area came to do ministry for the week. During this time, all hands are on deck from the SCORE missionaries and translators to help serve the group and serve alongside them at ministry sites. This year, the Climb students got to be a part of the week and use their skills and experience to assist the group!

From Monday to Thursday, we went out every day to do ministry with them. We got up early and ate breakfast with the translators then headed out to where the group stayed to divide and serve with them. The students were all split up and went out with another translator and assisted in any way possible. The students really got to use their Spanish skills and show their experience in ministry here. Many of them worked as translators and translated prayers, testimonies, gospel presentations, and conversations between the American visitors and the local Dominicans. The students went to new sites and used their experience and helped the visiting group to connect and effectively minister to those they were visiting. They also went to sites we go to every single week where they have built trust and formed relationships and they got to bridge the gap and help the group connect with the kids and leaders we know by name and love so dearly. It was incredible to watch them go out on their own and use what they have learned from their time here to serve alongside the group and make the connections meaningful and intentional.

Every day we were our all day at ministry sites with the group at schools, orphanages, VBS, churches, food distribution, villages, sports and more locations and activities where we got to be a part of connecting with locals and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. In the evenings, we had worship and devotional time with the translators we worked with. The students had so much fun connecting with the translators and spending the week with such cool people who have such a heart for serving the Lord.

Once the week ended, we had a chill day Friday to recover from the crazy busy week we just had of nonstop active ministry. The students got to rest and catch up on homework and sleep.

On Saturday, we got back on our ministry schedule and headed out to Village 14 where we connected with our beloved community and shared a teaching we prepared. The theme was that God does not call the equipped, He equips the called. With this theme, the students each selected a person from scripture who represented the least likely to be chosen and used by God and how God used them to glorify His name. Teachings from them on Paul, Moses, Esther, Jeremiah, Gideon, and Daniel helped us to see how God chose and called the scared, unprepared, unequipped sinner to do a great work for His kingdom and His plan. Afterwards, we headed to Consuelo to work with the church of one of our dear translator friends from the work to do a teaching for the kids of the church. A big group of kids came and we led a game then a Bible teaching on Gods covenant promise with Abraham and the sons of Isaac. The students acted out the story and prepared some questions and teachings on the topic. It was so great to serve at a new place and teach them!

On Sunday, some of the students went to the church in Juan Dolio and others in Boca chica and then had a restful afternoon. We ended the week with small group where Enacent shared a teaching on what "Vivo para adorar" (I love to worship). It was a great reminder of what a life dedicated to worship looks like and led to great conversations!

This week was not a typical one but the students had an absolute blast serving in different ways and they were such a big help using their gifts, knowledge, and experience to connect and serve. We are savoring every moment in the last few weeks here and looking forward to getting back to our normal schedule this week!
