A proud moment for the AUC community!

Congratulations to 𝐃𝐫. 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐈𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐧 (𝐌𝐀 '𝟐𝟔), for earning 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 (Jointly) in the Arab Women Organization Award for Best Academic Thesis/Dissertation in the Arab Region on Women's Issues, presented in cooperation with UN Women.

Her outstanding dissertation was selected from 𝟓𝟒 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 representing 15 Arab countries, making her the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 to receive this prestigious recognition.

Congratulations to Shaimaa Yahya, a senior master's student in AUC's Global Public Health program, on being selected for the prestigious 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐒 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞, founded by the Mastercard Foundation.

Chosen from a highly competitive pool of 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟏,𝟎𝟎𝟎 applications from across Africa, Shaimaa is the 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 selected for this fellowship cohort, an outstanding achievement that marks a proud milestone for AUC and reflects the excellence and global impact of our graduate students.

Congratulations to AUC Journalism and Mass Communication graduate student Petra Zaky for presenting her research paper, “Meme-ing Your Way into Media Representation: Cultural Identity Portrayal of Immigrant Coptic Memes on Instagram,” at the 2026 International Communication Association (ICA) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

Petra developed this study during the Spring 2025 semester as part of the JRMC Independent Study course under the supervision of Dr. Shahira Fahmy.

At the recent Annual BEST Sporting Awards 2025/2026, The American University in Cairo (AUC) was crowned the number-one athletic university in the Egypt and a number of other prestigious awards:

What starts as a study abroad experience can turn into a lifelong journey.

After spending a semester at AUC as an undergraduate student, Sophie Termaat knew she wanted to come back. Today, she is pursuing her master’s degree at AUC, exploring Middle East politics and society from the heart of the region.
