❔Did you come to RGU from College? How did you feel in the new environment?

πŸ˜• Did people seem like they already knew each other and had their groups formed already?

πŸ€” Did you know what lecturers were talking about when it came to certain RGU-specific procedures?

😭 Have you even felt like dropping out because you thought you can't fit in?

❕I know transitioning from college to university can be a challenge, with the majority of direct entrants feeling alien to the university environment.

❗While most Schools at RGU offer support, this practice should be a university-wide initiative to make sure no one is at disadvantage.

So, direct entrants, objective 5 is for you:

πŸ’ͺ Improve support for students transitioning from college to university.

➑ I propose ice-breakers for you to get to know your new classmates and a comprehensive induction into how the university works, similar to what your colleagues received in 1st year.

βœ”οΈ This way, you won't feel like an outsider and you'll be part of the class right from day 1. πŸ’œ

This year has been particularly challenging and I admit I have been to counselling. But, why do we need to "admit" we've been to counselling. Why can't it be a normal thing?

I have learned so much about myself, why I feel in a particular way, and how I can take care of my mental health to be resilient and keep studying and enjoy life.

Mental health is something many students struggle with, and counselling can help. It's something we should all try and be open about, yet not many know these RGU led and RGU student-led services even exist.

So, here is objective number 4:
Increase access to and visibility of RGU counselling services.

We should all feel well and have good mental health to study and enjoy life. I really think we need this more than ever.

Counselling can help us understand why we feel low sometimes or lose interest in the things we usually enjoy, such as work, friends, family, relationships.

I want to increase access to and visibility of counselling services at RGU, breaking the stigma associated with mental health, and help you have a productive and positive outlook on life.

Polls open tomorrow! πŸ—³οΈ Vote IRINA-CRISTINA BOGDAN as your 1st choice for President of Education and Welfare at https://www.rguunion.co.uk. We can do this! I have faith! πŸ’œ

➑ Objective 3 tackles the stress and anxiety that COVID-19 has caused:

πŸ˜” Being isolated at home and unable to go to campus, many of us lack motivation, can’t focus, and procrastinate more than before when studying alone.

πŸ“š So, Let's Study Together!

I want to organise weekly online study groups on Microsoft Teams.

πŸ’ͺ This would motivate you, make you more productive, and give you a sense of community to tackle the stress and anxiety that COVID-19 has caused.

Who wants to have fun? Raise your hand in the comments. βœ‹ Objective 2 is for you.

Student life should be the best time of our lives! πŸ₯³

πŸ’ƒπŸΌ We should make friends, take part in events, have fun, learn new things, and challenge ourselves to develop personally and professionally.

In this difficult time, we are missing out on human connection. πŸ˜”

πŸŽ‰ So, I want to organise socials and workshops with fun games, and support societies with their social activities.

This would help you connect and create long-lasting friendships with your classmates and those with similar interests. πŸ’œ

➑ Share with your friends and societies to let them know about this!

Polls open on Monday. Curious to find out about my objectives? πŸ€”

Here is Objective 1.

❔Often, student feedback reaches staff at the end of the semester making it hard to make improvements for a current cohort. As much as it helps the next generation, feedback channels should be improved for you and your class to benefit from.

❗I want to introduce, across the University, anonymous mid-semester surveys on Campus Moodle for all modules and regular meetups with lecturers, so you could comment on the learning and teaching process directly to them.

βœ”οΈThis way, they can take action right away and adapt their practices to your needs.
