"I had the opportunity to visit the UN Headquarters. I had a conversation with an African Union Adviser who opened my eyes to the scale of what could be achieved in global development. That's when I knew that International Development with Economics was the degree for me."

Since graduating, Iyanu's career has taken her from international development to education and corporate sustainability – a path she describes as non-linear from the outside, but coherent from within.

"A few years ago, recognising a human face under real-world conditions was a challenge. Today, AI can recognise individual animals, detect their physical condition, and perhaps soon even tell us something about how they are feeling."

Melvyn's career traces the rise of AI. After studying Mechanical Engineering at Bath, he moved through toolmaking and robotics research into a distinguished academic career.

His current project? Using AI to detect stress and emotion in animals, starting with pigs.

Simi's colourful life has seen her trade a career in commercial banking for a passion project that became her calling: Simi's Kitchen, where she teaches cookery and caters across Bath, specialising in Persian food

This year, that passion culminated in her first book, Fermented Dairy of Central Asia, the perfect way to blend her natural curiosity and pride for her Turkic Iranian heritage.

Sonya didn't have the 'typical' student experience. While at Bath, she worked several part-time jobs to fund her studies and lived off campus. Despite this, she always knew what she was working towards: a role in the third sector where she would make a difference.

Now, Sonya is CEO at Action for ME, a charity incredibly close to her heart.
