This week is Volunteers' Week, a chance to celebrate and say thank you for the contribution volunteers make within Hillcrest and in the wider community.

Our boutique charity shop, Past Present Futures will be sharing testimonials throughout the week in celebration of Volunteers’ Week. Give their page a like to follow along.

In today's post we hear from Sheena who is celebrating a very exciting milestone of one year of volunteering. Well done Sheena! 🎉

Past Present Futures is located at 104 Gray Street, Broughty Ferry and is open Monday – Saturday from 10am to 4pm. All money raised in the shop goes to Hillcrest Futures to support vulnerable people to live full and vibrant lives.

As we celebrate Volunteer’s Week, we’re also celebrating a very special milestone, one year of volunteering from Sheena.🎉

Sheena told us:
“This has given me the perfect routine after my retirement. I enjoy meeting new people and supporting a great charity. I love volunteering at the shop.”

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and we simply couldn't do it without them. 💜

Dickson Avenue brings community together for fundraising success

Hillcrest Futures' Dickson Avenue Housing with Care service in Dundee recently hosted a successful fundraising event, bringing tenants, families and staff together for a fun and relaxed afternoon.

Held on Saturday 23 May, the event featured a £1 pop-up clothes shop, as well as a cake stall, raffle and refreshments, creating a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. Supported individuals were joined by family and friends, with lots of opportunities to connect and take part.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, an impressive £253 was raised. The funds will go towards a new TV and DVD player, supporting future social activities and entertainment within the service.

A great example of community spirit in action 💙

By leveraging the power of lived experience, peer workers within acute services can provide compassionate, non-judgmental support that promotes recovery, reduces harm, and improves patient outcomes as well as increasing educational knowledge for staff.

Peer Workers will work within the acute settings to help provide overdose awareness, support access to community Injecting Equipment Provision (IEP), distribute naloxone as well as developing initiatives to engage, mentor and coach people on recovery activities. The Peer role will help to 'support and connect' people to the wider specialist and mainstream support within the community.

☀️ Summer BBQ at Lauriston in Leith

We recently had a lovely summer barbecue at Lauriston in Leith, one of our Hillcrest Futures services, bringing together staff and the women we support for a relaxed day in the garden.

It was a nice chance for everyone to spend time together, catch up, and enjoy each other's company. There was lots of laughter, good food, and plenty of lovely conversations throughout the day.

One of the highlights was when one of the women we support decided she'd love cornrow braids for the summer. Our support worker Patience was more than happy to help, and she was absolutely delighted with how they turned out 💛

It was a really lovely day and great to see everyone enjoying themselves.

The Support Worker will work as part of a team to deliver a high standard of care and support to 4 individuals to help them to achieve their agreed individual outcomes. This includes direct support to individuals with profound Global Developmental Delays and Physical disabilities, as agreed in individual Personal Outcome Plans. As part of the role, you will provide intimate personal care,
have knowledge and or an understanding of PEG feeding and
provide full support with medication dispensing and administration.
