THE FIRST CRUSADE: A MEGAGAME
Staff, students, alumni of the University of Edinburgh, and their guests are all invited to join our megagame on the First Crusade, which will take place on April 4 from 17:00 to 21:00 BST in Teaching Room 05 of the Old College, South Bridge, EH8 9YL.
A megagame is a large-scale simulation that contains elements of role-playing games, tabletop games, and wargames.
You will be able to select one of 22 characters, who were chosen among crusader, Byzantine, Armenian, Syrian, and Fatimid leaders. We will then send you a simple characters sheet reporting the characteristics and goals of your character, and a brief outline of the very simple rules.
There is no requirement to follow the historical developments of the First crusade, and there are no formal teams. Each player will be free to respond to events as they happen around them, while engaging with their ultimate goals. For example, individual crusaders can reach open or secret agreements with Byzantine, Armenian, Syrian and Fatimid characters, and so on.
The megagame is based on simple rules that will be facilitates by referees.
The event is free but ticketed because we only have 22 spaces, and you will be able to select your character when you register.
You can register by using the Eventbrite link below:

Replay the First Crusade by role-playing one of its protagonists from among Crusaders, Byzantines, Armenians, Syrian warlords, or Fatimids.
