We're excited to welcome our new Graduate Entry Programme (GEP) students to the School today as they start their undergraduate veterinary medicine journey with us.

We hope you settle in quickly and enjoy your time in Edinburgh!

Our accelerated graduate programme allows students who have already completed a relevant degree to complete the BVM&S programme in four years, rather than the usual five.

GEP students have an extended first year which is specifically designed to combine elements of the first two years of the standard five-year programme. Following successful completion of this year, GEP students join the third-year cohort of the School’s five-year BVM&S programme.

We look forward to welcoming all our new and returning students to the School next month!

Congratulations to all of our fourth-year students who celebrated the end of their lectures today by wearing onesies; a fabulous and fun Dick Vet tradition.

Next stop: exams, then final year and clinical rotations – good luck everyone!

Posting on behalf of Edinburgh Nightline:

Nightline is now recruiting student listening volunteers!
Apply at https://ednightline.com/volunteering/

Can you listen without judgement?
Can you spare a few nights every term to support other students?
Would you like to join the most amazing community of people?

If the answer to any of those questions is “yes!”, it sounds like Nightline could be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you!

Who are we?

We are a confidential and anonymous support and listening service run by students, for students, and open every night of term from 8pm - 8am. We’re here to listen, never to judge. We can be reached either by calling us at 0131 557 4444 or using our Instant Messaging Service at ednightline.com.

Every night of term, our student volunteers answer calls and instant messages from their fellow university students about anything that's troubling them. Nightline offers a safe place to talk.

Why are we recruiting?

Our organisation relies on our student volunteers to take confidential, anonymous calls. Our volunteers are from all walks of life, subject areas, academic institutions, and of all ages. No experience is required - just enthusiasm for our cause!

How do I apply?

To apply, you only need to submit an application form (https://ednightline.com/volunteering/). The application form is open until the 23rd September 10 am. If your application is successful, you will be then invited for the interview, which will be followed by the training programme (more information can be found in the application form).

Looking for more information on what it’s like to volunteer with us?

We will be holding pre-training information sessions every day between 18:00 - 20:00 starting on Monday 18th and ending Friday 22nd. They will introduce potential volunteers to the service, the principles we operate under, and basic active listening techniques. They are not compulsory to attend, but if you want to learn more about our service, this is a perfect opportunity! All pre-training sessions are held at the Lecture Theatre C, 40 George Square. You're welcome to attend any of the pre-training sessions, no need to sign-up.

FAQ

What is the time commitment?

We ask our volunteers to take 2-3 shifts per month (that can be either long or short shifts). However, we completely understand if due to personal circumstances (such as a part-time job), you'll be able to take shifts less frequently.

What are the long and short shifts?

Short shifts last from 8 pm to midnight, whilst long shifts last from 8 pm to 8 am. During the long shift, you don't need to stay up the whole night.

Is there a fee for joining?

There's no fee for joining, but all our volunteers pay a small annual fee (£5) to the Nightline Association. However, if you have a limited budget, don't worry, we can reimburse you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us (you can either email us - [email protected] or text us on Facebook or Instagram)!

Volunteering Edinburgh Nightline is entirely run by student volunteers. We have a range of roles within, and around, supporting our service, from our listening volunteers, to our fundraising and publicity volunteers. All of our volunteers are supported by each other, and we’ve formed a great suppo...
