West Thames College recently held its final ET+ Student Voice meeting of the academic year, bringing together students, senior leaders, governors, and staff to reflect on the student experience and help shape the future of the College.

Student Voice plays a vital role at West Thames College, ensuring students are heard and actively involved in decisions around teaching, wellbeing, enrichment, careers, and digital innovation.

CEO and Principal praised students for their “strength and bravery” and celebrated the confidence, communication, and teamwork skills they have developed throughout the year.

The meeting also explored the College’s future Digital Strategy, including plans to expand AI, digital learning, inclusion, and student digital skills to prepare learners for the future workforce.

Thank you to all students who contributed their ideas, feedback, and leadership throughout the year. Your voice continues to shape the future of West Thames College.

Level 2 Music student Aman brought energy to the Atrium with his Final Major Project — a live DJ set celebrating Indian culture through music and performance.

The student-led event featured a mix of Indian music alongside a live dhol player, creating an exciting atmosphere for everyone who attended.

Aman said:

“I wanted to introduce everyone to Indian culture and bring people together through music.”

Having DJed since the age of five, this was Aman’s first large-scale professional event and an opportunity to showcase the skills he has developed throughout his course.

Music and Media lecturer Matthew Taylor praised the project for giving students real-world industry experience beyond the classroom, including live sound, event setup, music production, and performance skills.

We’re proud to share that Simran, a talented Hair and Beauty student from West Thames College, has recently begun her exciting work placement at The Art Studio in the Treaty Centre.

Starting something new can feel daunting, and Simran admits she was a little shy at first—but it didn’t take long for her to find her confidence. Within days, she settled into the vibrant, creative environment and is now thriving as part of the team.

Supported by Florinda, Simran is gaining valuable real-world experience in a busy customer-facing setting. From preparing hot drinks as a barista ☕ to operating tills and welcoming visitors, she’s building essential skills in customer service and retail—skills that will support her future career.

Yonas Nega, Job Coach said: "Her enthusiasm, positive attitude, and willingness to learn have already made a fantastic impression. During a recent visit, it was clear how much she has grown—confident, smiling, and fully engaged in her role."

Simran will continue her placement through the end of the college year, and we have no doubt she’ll keep going from strength to strength. She is a brilliant ambassador for the college!

🎓 Hear directly from our students at the West Thames College Higher Education Fair 2026!

In this video, students share why they attended the fair, what they learned from speaking to universities and higher education providers, and how the event helped them think about their future plans after college. From exploring university courses and apprenticeships to discovering new career pathways, the day gave students the chance to gain valuable advice and inspiration for the next stage of their journey.

For Earth Day, our amazing students transformed the College Atrium into a hub of creativity and sustainability, hosting an Earth Day event packed with awareness activities and fun games for students and staff alike. 💚

From interactive challenges to hands-on experiences, every activity was thoughtfully designed to highlight the importance of going green, protecting our planet, and embracing the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle. ♻️

Even better? All materials used were recycled — proving that small, creative actions can make a big difference! 🌱

Let’s keep the momentum going and continue working together towards a more sustainable future. 🌎💫
