Inspirational fundraising challenge for the British Heart Foundation from one of our Health Innovation One co-workers, Michael from Holdens Chartered Surveyors & Building Consultancy.

The North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes volunteer is raising money by travelling by motorbike to the 65 BHF red benches unveiled across the UK this year.

The benches, designed to mark 65 years since the charity began, turn the familiar motif of a memorial bench on its head by commemorating those who have survived.

Behind every bench is a powerful real-life story of someone living with a cardiovascular condition, with each bench placed near the communities the survivors come from, allowing people to encounter powerful, locally-relevant stories in everyday settings such as parks, high streets and town centres.

The campaign struck a chord with Michael, who was given two weeks to live in January 2024 if he didn't undertake urgent open heart surgery.

We recently partnered with Rightmove to showcase our office space at Health Innovation One. On exploring the wider market we confirmed what we’ve always known.
We’re not really looking for office tenants. We’re building partnerships.
There’s an array of standard commercial space available locally. What sets us apart is everything beyond the office walls: access to researchers, collaboration on high-impact projects, funding opportunities, sector-leading events - and a thriving innovation community.
We’re looking for organisations who want to step out of the office - to connect, collaborate and drive meaningful change.
It’s not about the office. It’s about the opportunity around it.

Colleagues in our Sport and Exercise Science team use world-leading motion capture technology in the Biomechanics Lab in Health Innovation One to carry out detailed gait analysis on stakeholders from elite athletes to stroke victims.
Their latest project with SportsShoes and Qualisys AB will see the technology made available through a pop-up shop at the London Marathon so amateur runners can access data usually only available to high-performance sports men and women.

London Marathon runners will be able to select which shoes best enhance their performance thanks to a Lancaster University project using the latest motion capture technology.

It's World Book Day and, as you might expect from a university, we love books here at Lancaster University.
This year's World Book Day focuses on "Go All In" as part of the National Year of Reading, encouraging children to dive deeper into books they love and make reading for pleasure a habit.
Evidence suggests that reading for pleasure is beneficial for educational purposes as well as personal development - and that reading enjoyment is more important for children’s educational success than their family’s socio-economic status.
And if you love books, there's nowhere better than our amazing Lancaster University to head to this World Book Day.

This week at Lancaster University ’s Health@Lancaster Collaboration Cafe, we heard from the Blackpool Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) on their project to embed evidence into local decision-making at .
The collaboration recognises local-authorities’ roles in shaping health and wellbeing through services like housing, education, and social work - and the need for courageous culture change to ensure decisions are grounded in the best available research.
A key strength in the HDRC model is the use of community co-researchers, working with academics and council officers to bring together local knowledge, policy-making experience and wider research to create a shared “evidence pie” for better outcomes.
With funding available for future research projects, the collaboration is seeking academic and health sector partners to widen its scope and drive further improvements.
