DU Alumni Association UK Celebrates a Decade of Global Connection and Impact
The Dhaka University Alumni Association UK marked its 10th anniversary with a vibrant reunion and grand celebration in London, bringing together more than 300 former students for a day filled with nostalgia, inspiration, and camaraderie.
The event took place on Saturday, October 26, at the Sir James Hawkey Hall in Woodford, and was graced by distinguished guests, cultural performances, and heartfelt reflections on the journey of the past decade.
Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), attended as the chief guest. In his keynote speech, he praised the alumni for their achievements and contributions, saying: “The role of Dhaka University alumni abroad is truly unique in promoting Bangladesh’s development, investment prospects, and global image. Dhaka University graduates around the world are not only excelling in their professional fields but are also making significant contributions to social and economic progress.” He urged the expatriate alumni to take a more active part in Bangladesh’s investment and development initiatives, emphasizing the vast potential for collaboration.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK, Abida Islam, joined as the special guest. In her remarks, she lauded the accomplishments of Dhaka University alumni across the globe and called for their continued partnership in advancing Bangladesh’s interests. “Dhaka University graduates represent the brilliance, leadership, and cultural heritage of Bangladesh on the world stage. Their professional success and dedication to community service are strengthening our nation’s reputation internationally. I believe this unity among alumni will pave new paths for collaboration in education, research, and investment between Bangladesh and the UK,” she said.
The event was presided over by Dr. Md. Mosaddeque Hossain Biswash Dambel, President of the association, while General Secretary Khaled Millat, Trustee Board Chair Adhir Ranjan Das, and 10th Anniversary Celebration Convener Syeda Saima Ahmed also addressed the gathering. Founding members, executive committee representatives, and alumni from across the UK attended the milestone celebration.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Biswash reflected, “Dhaka University is at the heart of our identity. Even while living abroad, we strive to uphold the ideals, values, and friendships that this great institution has instilled in us. This 10-year journey in the UK stands as a testament to our unity and enduring bond.” He also announced that the association plans to launch new initiatives to strengthen professional networks and mutual support among alumni in the coming years.
The day-long celebration featured an opening session, interactive discussions, reminiscences from campus life, and an engaging cultural evening. Participants shared cherished memories, professional experiences, and visions for the future of Dhaka University.
The festivities concluded with captivating cultural performances, including a musical segment by popular US-based singer Arzeen Kamal and a lively blend of traditional and contemporary ballet performances and folk music, which added color and rhythm to the celebration. The venue came alive with enthusiasm and fellowship as alumni reconnected and celebrated their shared heritage.
The entire event was moderated by founding member Bulbul Hasan. Organisers remarked that this gathering was more than just a reunion — it was a celebration of friendship, unity, and mutual support. The 10th-anniversary milestone not only reinforced the bond among alumni but also elevated Dhaka University’s global reputation to new heights.
