We recently had the privilege of hosting an incredible Arabic calligraphy workshop led by the talented Yasmine Kadhim, a local Ealing artist working across the borough and what a truly inspiring experience it was for UWL students! โจ๐จ
ย
This was part of an amazing project called โCulture, Wellbeing and Future Pathwaysโ, led by one of our talented UWL students through our Students for Students campaign. This programme focuses on developing studentsโ event planning and leadership skills, with dedicated mentoring support from the Volunteering and Civic Engagement Team.
ย
With 15 students taking part, the session brought together a diverse group. Some students arrived with a little knowledge of Arabic, while others were complete beginners and it was inspiring to see students confidently share their knowledge while others engaged with curiosity. This event was a great example of genuine cultural exchange through an innovative creative practice.
ย
Throughout the workshop, students explored the fundamentals of Arabic calligraphy using a wide range of materials from bamboo pens and calligraphy ink to paints and pastels creating unique, expressive pieces of their own! ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
Beyond learning a new skill, students gained a deeper appreciation for Arabic language, reflecting the power of art to bring people together ๐
ย
Weโre also proud to share that the artwork created will be displayed within the community, celebrating both creativity and cultural connection. Please keep an eye out for details! ๐
