Why Study with a Year Abroad? 🌎

Through new global partnerships with universities around the world, LIS students can now add an international dimension to their studies by living and learning in different academic and cultural settings.
Studying abroad offers more than travel - it brings:

- Deep cultural immersion
- Exposure to different teaching approaches and academic perspectives
- The chance to develop adaptability, independence, and a broader worldview

Join us to hear about these benefits directly from our wonderful panelists:

- Paul O'Toole and Javiera Ruiz-Tagle Coloma representing Universidad del Desarrollo
- Iris van der Tuin representing Utrecht University
- Matteo Pedriglieri representing emlyon business school

Our second year students recently tackled the future of Urban Mobility, designing creative interventions to move people smarter in denser cities.

The module culminated in the creation and presentation of research posters, within which our students are helping reshape sustainable environments and drive positive behavioural change for tomorrow’s urban world.

Last Friday, our final-year undergraduates showcased their inspiring campaigning projects as part of the Communities and Campaigning module lead by James Everest.

From creating communities through intellectual pub talks, to reimagining student workspaces, to promoting phone-free club nights, each campaign tackled community-building in creative, hands-on ways.

The students presented their work in a Dragon’s Den–style pitch session, where they shared ideas, strategies, and impact goals with a panel of expert judges:
• Neil Barrie – Founder & CEO, TwentyFirstCenturyBrand
• Alex Anstruther – LIS graduate, now working for The Labour Party in South Kensington
• Stephen Tuck – LIS BASc Course and Academic Director

We were also joined by Radhika Patel, movement-builder at Small Axe, Rose Amey, a part-time MASc student at LIS and campaigner at Power for People, and Callum Campbell, the founder of Pints of Knowledge.

Congratulations to the phone-free clubbing group, whose campaign was chosen as this year’s winner! A brilliant example of creative, research-led action to spark meaningful connection.

Huge well done to all our students for their thoughtful, purposeful work in bringing communities together!

The module ‘Encountering Ecosystems’ is anything but a typical classroom experience. 🌿

From biodiversity monitoring and water testing to walking interviews and participatory mapping, students spend their classes out on fieldtrips in local habitats, exploring how social and natural systems intertwine.

These trips build research skills in ecology and anthropology, and feed into eco-art, collage, and storytelling practices that culminate in a creative exhibition connecting people, place, and the planet.

What can numbers reveal about Shakespeare?

Next Tuesday (March 10th) at LIS, faculty member Anson Cheung will host an interactive evening exploring Shakespeare through the lens of mathematics.

Joining him are Darren Freebury-Jones, a leading Shakespeare scholar, and Rob Eastaway, bestselling maths author of Much Ado About Numbers. Together they’ll uncover surprising insights about the world of William Shakespeare:

- Was Shakespeare the sole author of his plays?
- How much money could playwrights make in Elizabethan theatre?
- How long did it take to rehearse works like Twelfth Night and King Lear?
- And what role did mathematics play in shaping the plays themselves?

Through stories, visuals, and audience interaction, the talk will explore how numbers can deepen our understanding of the structure, language, and cultural context of Shakespeare’s work.

Building Bridges: Students from Ukraine Explore LIS 🌎

We were delighted to welcome students from The British International School, Ukraine to LIS this month!

They got a glimpse into our unique curriculum and student projects, explored our campus, and took part in a Systems Mapping Workshop where they were able to dive into one of the interdisciplinary methods that shape how our students tackle complex, real-world problems.

‘We really enjoyed spending time with the BISU students, who brought a lot of energy to LIS. Our hope is that we managed to inspire them to leverage their full spectrum thinking to tackle the complex challenges they face." - Christopher Persson, LIS Co-Founder, Chair of the Board

"Visiting LIS was a real highlight for our students - they experienced interdisciplinary learning in action and got hands-on with systems mapping. We’re grateful for the warm welcome and excited to build a lasting bridge between our schools for future collaborations." - Anton Zastavnyi, BISU CEO
