And now for something completely different. If you're in to your classic yachts, a kit we designed a few years back is up for a "spirit of tradition" award in the Classic boats magazine. Built by the apprentices at Downs road yard, Maldon, the Laerling is a lovely looking vessel fitted out by the same team that produced the Blue Mermaid Thames barge a while back:

These photos give a pretty good idea of what is involved in a build kit. Part names, reference lines and understanding the logic of how the folks on the shop floor want to build all help in minimising head scratching time. There’s some 3,500 bits of aluminium in the structure of this vessel.
