Congratulations to Isle of Wight Beach Soccer getting much deserved recognition in this week's Isle of Wight County Press.

Hard work pays off and Luke epitomizes that. Thank you from Jack and I and the rest of Solent Santos for allowing beach soccer to be an avenue for so many island players!

Well done to all staff and players who travelled to Holland for the tournament - hopefully your successes will inspire the next wave of beach soccer players from the IOW!!

SAINTS FOUNDATION EXTERNAL (SATELLITE) FOOTBALL & EDUCATION PROGRAMMES

Saints Foundation is expanding our already successful Southampton FC education programme that has been delivered at St Mary’s Stadium since 2011.

This exciting new programme will be launching in September 2017 in four key areas of Fleet, Basingstoke, Salisbury and Newport, Isle of Wight. The programme will combine football and education to give aspiring young boys and girls the opportunities to strive towards a career in sport.

We are proud to be launching our Isle of Wight Satellite programme at Christ the King College in Newport.

Whilst studying a BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and training every week, students will improve their footballing skills, knowledge and tactical awareness along with receiving a first class education.

Our education environments are unique in the sense that we work in smaller classes, therefore maximising the time the teacher can spend with each student on a one to one basis, giving them the best possible opportunity to achieve their target grades and subsequently the best chance of gaining employment or further education upon completion of the programme.

The practical element of the course is 6-8 hours a week, with training from an FA qualified coach who is a full time member of staff at Southampton Football Club. The coach will look to support and improve all aspects of the game in different ways; particularly through sessions that have an in-depth structure to make sure participants are learning new things every day.
All abilities will be catered for to ensure each student has a pathway to fill their own potential. A competitive fixture programme will also be included, with preparing for competitive games being part of the daily training.

The additional opportunities for a Saints Foundation Scholar are vast and vary from stadium tours to games at the club’s Staplewood Training Campus. Scholars may also get the privileged opportunity to play at St Mary’s Stadium in the Satellite Cup Final, which will be hosted on the hallowed turf of the prestigious Premier League club.

During the two year programme we will offer all students work experience within the wider Saints Foundation programmes. This will give students an opportunity to improve their skills and get invaluable football knowledge, as well as working with experienced professional coaches across a wide range of programmes.
Andrew Hunt, Education Satellite Co-ordinator said:

“This is a fantastic programme that offers the best options I’ve seen on these types of courses. I’m very excited to be involved in this and with the staff we have involved, the players and students will be learning from the best. I truly believe this is the perfect platform for students wanting to enhance themselves both on and off the pitch.”

Our existing programme has a number of students who have gone on to work for the Foundation in a variety of full and part-time roles, most notably within our current Education provisions at St Mary’s Stadium.

Our drive is to help with each student’s development and progression. We will help and support with whichever route is desired by the students. We have close links for USA Soccer Scholarships, can help with University applications and now offer a Foundation Degree in Community Football & Coaching Development. This is an additional two year course which is intended to offer paid work experience and then lead to potential employment within Saints Foundation or other relevant community sports organisations.
Mark Gamble, Education Manager at Saints Foundation commented:

“From the success we’ve had over the last six years running a programme at the stadium, this has been the natural progression for us to be able to deal with the demand of applications. We are very proud of what we do here and our passion is to continue to grow this in wider areas. We want more people to be aware of Saints Foundation and the fantastic work being done across all of our programmes. We already have students who have come through our programme to now work at the Foundation full time, and we want to add even more to this list.”

We are getting closer to the completion date for our first website! Work is being done every day to try and complete the site within the next few weeks - which will become our hub of news, results and fixtures and an easy way for people to keep up to date with what is going on at the club and within the game of beach soccer nationally.

Also would like to wish all clubs around England taking part in the National Championships this weekend the best of luck - and our apologies that we couldn't be there this time.

Here's a quick look at the website homepage as it currently stands. Look forward to releasing it fully soon!

Had a great weekend at the Isle of Wight Beach Soccer Championships. We entered three teams at U14, U18 and senior level, and all represented the club superbly.

Our U14 lost a closely contested final 3-2 to the The Football Training Centre and collected Silver Medals after winning their group on the first day. Many thanks to all the players and parents for the help they gave me over the weekend after meeting many of them for the first time. The boys were absolutely terrific and a credit to the club.

The U18 side finished with Bronze Medals, after losing against Oakfield Reds and Sandown Sociedad BSC, but beating Appley All-Stars in their final game. This was after they comfortably won their group on the first day. Many of them were shattered after helping the senior side out on the first day, so a big thanks is due to all the lads in that team for working so hard over the weekend.

The senior side featured five tournament debutants under the age of 18 - Luke Wedderkop, Billy Thornton, George Carter-Knight, Dylan Lehmann and Morgan Perrin, who all did themselves proud and can look forward to plenty more time on the sand in the coming seasons. They were joined by Kieran Sanderson, Rai Higgins, Jez Conway and Jack Wedderkop - and ended up going out on penalties to Sandown Sociedad BSC A on penalties, after qualifying in third place, winning two out of four group games.

Both the adults and youth tournaments were organised superbly and provided an enjoyable weekend for players and spectators - big thanks to Luke Pepe Kerr and Jamie McInnes. Looking forward to next year!

Yesterday we headed to Croyde Bay, Devon for our first tournament of the season at the Thatchers Gold Beach Soccer Cup at GoldCoast Oceanfest 2016. Taking a small squad of six players, we partook in a Round Robin competition with the top four sides qualifying for the semi-final stages, each game lasting for 24 minutes. This was the first tournament for both 17 year-old Morgan Perrin and 18 year-old Patrick Sowerbutts, who were joined by Jacob Toms, Kieran Sanderson, Ryan Brown and Jack Wedderkop. Our results in the group stages were as follows:

Solent Santos 6-4 Tea And Busquets.
Morgan Perrin (3) and Jack Wedderkop (3).

Solent Santos 11-1 Ogres.
Jacob Toms (1), Morgan Perrin (1), Patrick Sowerbutts (2), Ryan Brown (3), Jack Wedderkop (4).

Solent Santos 1-7 Portsmouth Beach Soccer Club
Morgan Perrin (1)

Solent Santos 1 - 3 Sandy Soccer UK
Jacob Toms (1) - corker of a goal!

After finishing 3rd in the Round Robin, we were drawn against 2nd place team Sandy Soccer UK, who we had played in the previous round. This time it was Solent that won a hard fought battle 7-4, with goals from Ryan Brown (1), Jack Wedderkop (3) and Morgan Perrin (3) - including one of the best goals we have all seen on the sand from Morgan Perrin to end the game! This took us through to the final where we would play Portsmouth BSC for the second time.

After losing to Portsmouth BSC 7-1 earlier in the day, and with a squad of just six players, the final turned out to be a much closer game than expected. Solent led the game 2-0 though two Jack Wedderkop goals, before Portsmouth brought the game back to 3-3 at half-time, courtesy of a spectacular Dean Blake bicycle kick. After Peter Wood scored from kick off at the start of the second half, Portsmouth led throughout, with 5-4 being the closest Solent could get before Portsmouth pulled away to deservedly win a superb game 7-5. Our goals came from Morgan Perrin (2) and Jack Wedderkop (3). Congratulations to Portsmouth Beach Soccer Club on the win and we all hope you enjoy those crates of Thatchers Cider!

Big thank you to Scott Burgess and Josh Jarrett on hosting a great tournament - and we look forward to seeing you back at Oceanfest next season!
