Swimming Success

What an incredible five weeks we’ve had in the pool! We’re delighted to share that over 200 children have taken part in swimming lessons this term — a fantastic achievement for our school community. The children have shown amazing confidence, determination and resilience, and it’s been brilliant to see their progress.

A huge thank you to all parents for your continued support, and an extra big shout‑out to our wonderful staff team for organising, supervising and encouraging the children throughout the programme. It truly has been a whole‑school effort.

We’re incredibly proud of the children and the way they’ve demonstrated key School Games Values such as determination, teamwork and self‑belief in the pool.

⭐ Did You Know… Moorlands Is a Platinum School!

We’re incredibly proud to share that Moorlands Junior School is now in its second year of holding the School Games Platinum Award — the highest national recognition for PE, sport and physical activity.

Platinum is a two‑year award, and we are currently in Year 2 of our Platinum status. This reflects our ongoing commitment to high‑quality PE, a wide range of sporting opportunities and a school culture where every child can enjoy being active.

A huge thank you to Mr Phillips, our PE Lead, and the entire Moorlands team for their dedication, energy and passion. Their hard work ensures that sport and physical activity continue to thrive across the school.

Our netball team took part in the after‑school tournament at Springfield and finished in a very respectable 4th place. The children played with real determination throughout, showing excellent movement, quick passing and some brilliant defensive work across all of their games. They worked incredibly hard on court, pushing themselves in every match and never giving up, even in the tightest moments.

What really stood out was their sportsmanship. They supported each other, congratulated opponents, and represented Moorlands with maturity and pride. Their attitude reflected the School Games Values of Respect, Teamwork, Passion, and Self‑Belief, which were evident in every match they played.

A huge thank you to all the parents for helping with transport and for your continued support from the sidelines. Thank you also to the staff organisers at Springfield for running such a smooth and enjoyable event. And a special thank you to Mr Phillips for organising and supporting the team throughout.

Most importantly, well done to the children for their effort, enthusiasm and the way they conducted themselves during the tournament. We are incredibly proud of how they played and how they represented the school.

Manchester Schools Climbing Competition 2026

The MJS Climbing Team took part in the Manchester Schools Climbing Competition on Wednesday 25th March 2026.

Everyone on the team climbed brilliantly and demonstrated fantastic determination, resilience, and teamwork throughout the event. I am very proud of their efforts and the positive attitude they showed from start to finish. The children represented Moorlands excellently.

Although we didn’t secure any podium positions in the KS2 boys or girls categories this time, the experience was a valuable one and a great achievement for everyone involved. As I told the children at the end of the day, I am really proud of their effort, commitment and determination, and they all had fun!

A big thank you goes to Mrs Smith for accompanying us on the trip and capturing some wonderful photographs of her group.

🏊 Year 5 Swimming Gala 🏊‍♀️

Well done to our Year 5 swimming team who represented Moorlands brilliantly at the swimming gala at Sale Leisure Centre today.

The children competed against 10 other schools and showed fantastic determination teamwork and respect throughout the event.

We are very proud to share that:
🏅 The boys team finished 4th
🏅 The girls team finished 5th

Every swimmer took part in individual races and team relays giving their best effort and supporting one another from start to finish.

Throughout the afternoon the team demonstrated our School Games values of determination passion teamwork honesty self-belief and respect. They also showed our Moorlands school values by supporting and caring for each other being inspired to achieve and grow and making the most of every opportunity.

A huge well done to all of our swimmers for representing Moorlands with pride — we are very proud of you! 💙🏊

🎅 Santa Dash – A Whole School Effort! 🎅
We had a brilliant time today taking part in the National Santa Dash. Every year group joined in, showing fantastic whole school participation and a real sense of togetherness.

The event was a great example of the School Games Values in action. Pupils showed determination by completing the course, teamwork by encouraging each other and passion by bringing lots of festive energy.

Thank you for making sure children were dressed for the weather and ready to take part. It was a positive, active and inclusive way to celebrate the lead up to Christmas.

🏀 Mixed Basketball Competition – Group A 🏀

A huge well done to our Moorlands mixed basketball team, who took part in tonight’s Trafford Sports Partnership event. The team played five fast-paced games and showed outstanding teamwork, resilience and determination throughout.

We faced St Marys, Moss Park, Springfield, Bowdon Church and Victoria Park in a very competitive group. The children worked tirelessly in defence, passed the ball brilliantly and supported one another from start to finish.

After a strong 4–2 win in the opening match, the team continued to battle hard across the fixture list, picking up a draw along the way and finishing the evening in style with two brilliant back-to-back victories, including a confident 2–0 win in the final game.

With three wins, one draw and one loss, scoring 10 baskets and conceding just 4, Moorlands secured an amazing 2nd place finish in the group – a fantastic achievement.

The team represented Moorlands proudly and demonstrated the School Games Values of teamwork, passion and self-belief in every match. A special mention to our two girls, who played every game and showed brilliant commitment.

🏀 Moorlands Girls’ Basketball Team – Competition Update 🏀

A huge well done to our Moorlands girls’ basketball team, who took part in today’s Trafford Sports Partnership competition. The girls showed fantastic teamwork, resilience and determination across all five of their matches.

They faced Navigation, St Michaels, Bowdon Church, Hale Prep and St Marys in a very competitive group. The team battled for every ball, defended brilliantly and supported one another from start to finish.

The girls represented Moorlands proudly and demonstrated the School Games Values throughout the afternoon – especially self-belief, passion and teamwork.

💚 A big thank you to Mr Phillips for coaching and taking the team, and to all parents for their support.

🚶 Transport Ministry Update 🚴
Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm during our Transport Ministry assembly today. The children were fantastic and showed real interest in how we can make our journeys to school healthier, safer and more active.

Next week, the Transport Ministers will begin tracking how each class travels to school using our new School Stride app. Each morning they’ll come to classrooms with the iPad to record how many pupils walked, scooted, cycled or arrived by car.

This links closely to our School Games Values, especially determination, teamwork, respect and honesty. Small changes can make a big difference, and we’re excited to see how our active travel improves across the school.

🏀 Moorlands Boys’ Basketball Team 🏀

Our Moorlands boys put in a fantastic performance on Monday 10th November, showing brilliant teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

After a strong 2–2 draw against Moss Park, the team stormed to a 6–0 victory over Heyes Lane. Despite narrow defeats to Park Road and Bowdon Church, they finished in style with another impressive 6–0 win against Woodheys, securing 4th place overall in a very competitive group.

The boys represented Moorlands with pride and demonstrated the School Games Values of Teamwork, Determination and Self-Belief in every game.
