What a great conference from BAA this year. We have attended some really interesting presentations, chatted about the new technologies available and managed to catch up with lots of Southampton Audiology Alumni. It’s so nice to catch up and see how they are all getting on. Looking forward to 2022.

'Playing sound through the skin improves hearing in noisy places for cochlear implant users.'

Researchers at the ISVR have a recently published paper and article feature on the effects of tactile stimulation on speech intelligibility in noisy situations for people with cochlear implants.

Help us understand music listening habits by installing the BTA Loudness Study App and taking part in the lab study.

You will be entered into a £50 prize draw for using the app, and be paid £15 if you take part in the laboratory study.

We’re looking for android smartphone users to take part in a study exploring music listening habits and its relationship to hearing problems. We’re interested in the ways in which people listen to music through their smartphone devices, how people interact with music apps on smartphone devices and the duration and intensity of music listening. We will also be running a laboratory study on people who have used the app, where we will test their hearing ability. If you agree to be contacted, you will receive an email after using the app for 1 month inviting you to the study that will take place in the University of Southampton Hearing and Balance Centre.

The app can be downloaded at http://ecs.gg/loudness

It will run in the background for four weeks, asking you a few daily questions in the fourth week of the study. Following this, the app will automatically deactivate and can be uninstalled.

This project is funded by the British Tinnitus Association and is a collaboration between the University of Southampton and University College London, ERGO number: 30471.
