It was one of those weekends where you learn so much!! We had pretty much every scenario thrown at us, right from a rain deluge to blinding low sun, mechanical failures and total domination on track!!
•
We couldn’t of been more confident going into the last round of the Praga cup championship, based on our pace from testing and the last race a month ago.
•
Saturday’s race one was hampered from the start with gearbox issue we carried from qualifying, starting P4 we did start gaining positions in the race besides the problem, but eventually the problem grew into a bigger one resulting in a gearbox failure, the DNF meant we started P7 for Sunday as we had completed seventy five percent of the race.
•
Sunday was a different story ,with a fresh gearbox and a confident team, we had to go as fast as possible to jump our 30 second success penalty and try and take something out of the final race of the year.
Once UWR driver cleared the first corner Scramble he got his head down and got the lead and started pulling away at 2 seconds a lap, eventually pulling a 24 second lead before the pit stop, this allowed UWR to come out in the lead by 8 seconds and stabilise the lead.
Overcoming all odds UWR thought there weren’t anymore curve balls to come their way ….. Until !!7 minutes from the end of the race…. Out came a drive though penalty for the car number 11 for a pit lane infringement 😳😫😤😡
Turns out out stop was 1.4 seconds to short! This handed the lead to car 87 putting UWR 23 seconds down with 5 mins to go!
After our instant disappointment the UWR team were buzzing and rightful so ,dominating the race and bagging driver of the day for Shane Kelly.
UWR have had a sensational first season in the Praga’s Cup.
Remember this time is student led! We thank all of our amazing sponsors and supporters . 💙
