DAY 3,
Another solid day for the UWR Formula Student team, the day started early at the acceleration test on the straight at Silverstone; where team UWR nailed a 4.7 sec time on a damp track on slick tyres to secure 4th and a place in the run off final, where they eventually finished 6th overall!
Soon after the heavens opened an the rain didn’t stop!
UWR FS pushed on and braved the sprint lap event in horrendous conditions and banged in 4 solid laps between two drivers, with a fastest time of 1 min 20 Sec.
Wolf VII is now tucked up safely in the pit garage ready for tomorrow’s endurance event.
Watch out for live updates !

After a busy day at Silverstone circuit, the UWR Formula Student team have had a successful day participating in the costing and Design events.

Both static presentation events will yield a large chunk of points to go toward the overall team points tally.

Team leader Jamie Garratt said “We feel we are well prepared for each FS event; these early static assessments are important, and we felt we delivered them well, there is always something you feel you could have done better but the team are feeling positive”

This afternoon the team rolled straight into the first part of scrutineering, there are multiple stages of the scrutineering testing every aspect of driver and car safety and making sure the car is in a fit state to qualify for the dynamic events.

The team will continue with scrutineering first thing tomorrow morning, UWR technical lead Nick Skidmore said, “A really positive day for everyone, we have few small things to solve overnight, and we will head back to scrutineering first thing”.

Once the team have passed all the scrutineering tests, they plan to start dynamic test ahead of the busy weekend events.

It was one of those weekends where you learn so much!! We had pretty much every scenario thrown at us, right from a rain deluge to blinding low sun, mechanical failures and total domination on track!!

We couldn’t of been more confident going into the last round of the Praga cup championship, based on our pace from testing and the last race a month ago.

Saturday’s race one was hampered from the start with gearbox issue we carried from qualifying, starting P4 we did start gaining positions in the race besides the problem, but eventually the problem grew into a bigger one resulting in a gearbox failure, the DNF meant we started P7 for Sunday as we had completed seventy five percent of the race.

Sunday was a different story ,with a fresh gearbox and a confident team, we had to go as fast as possible to jump our 30 second success penalty and try and take something out of the final race of the year.
Once UWR driver cleared the first corner Scramble he got his head down and got the lead and started pulling away at 2 seconds a lap, eventually pulling a 24 second lead before the pit stop, this allowed UWR to come out in the lead by 8 seconds and stabilise the lead.
Overcoming all odds UWR thought there weren’t anymore curve balls to come their way ….. Until !!7 minutes from the end of the race…. Out came a drive though penalty for the car number 11 for a pit lane infringement 😳😫😤😡
Turns out out stop was 1.4 seconds to short! This handed the lead to car 87 putting UWR 23 seconds down with 5 mins to go!
After our instant disappointment the UWR team were buzzing and rightful so ,dominating the race and bagging driver of the day for Shane Kelly.

UWR have had a sensational first season in the Praga’s Cup.
Remember this time is student led! We thank all of our amazing sponsors and supporters . 💙

WEEKEND REPORT!
This weekend UWR continued the winning ways with the factory Plus Four race cars.
The UWR student lead team ended their Morgan Challenge season with two team 1-2’s for drivers and Tony Hirst

Race 1 Kelly and Hirst battled wheel to wheel with a last corner move gave Kelly the win,

Race 2, A slightly more spaced out with Kelly braking away for the rest of the pack to take win number three this season ,with Hirst battling hard throughout the race.

Kelly said after the race:
“Its been a patchy season for us in the Morgan Challenge this season with one thing or another, but every time we have raced we have been fast taking wins, this last round showed the hard work on the cars by the students has paid off”
Watch out for up and coming announcements for the Morgan team soon!

Preparations continue ahead of our final weekend of the at .
We head to Snetterton tomorrow ready for Friday testing and race day on Saturday.
It was a bittersweet weekend last time out at both drivers and Tony Hirst showing amazing pace , we didn’t achieve our potential as a team, the students have worked hard over the last few weeks to sort the problems that held us back last time.

Where do we start with this race weekend just gone?
The biggest thing for UWR it was at Donington park our most successful track as a team! Secondly uwracing as a team were massively prepared for this event working hard over the summer break and that showed everyday , from testing on Thursday to the last race on Sunday.(probably one of the best UWR performances to date) and every lap we did in testing we improved the car.
Saturday started off positively with in qualifying but unfortunately ending with a DNF scoring no points, but still one hundred percent positive positive for Sunday as we had true pace and we were doing everything right.
Sunday morning qualifying couldn’t of gone better for us ,smashing it with another opening up the time gap to everyone else.
For the first time this season We were running sk as a solo driver ,this meant he would do the full hour race on my own, as a result so we received a 30 seconds extra penalty on top of our mandatory 120 second stop.
This meant only one thing!! Nail it and go as fast as I can for an hour ,and thats what we did, making up the 21 seconds of that 30 second penalty finishing 2nd missing the win by 9 seconds!! Plus getting fastest lap!!
Another Donny to remember for UWR
A massive thank you to everyone supporting UWR and the Students , we are so lucky to have amazing sponsors who attend each race, along with students families, UWR alumni.
Roll on Donny part two!!
