Hi everyone! We’re having one more reeling session tonight in preparation for our winter ball! This would be a great opportunity to brush up your skills before the ball, or to show anyone you’re bringing to the ball what’s going on! We’ll be in ATB/042 (different to our usual room, but in the same building) at the slightly earlier time of 7. See you there!

Hear ye, hear ye! It’s the itinerary for the summer ball!

Doors will open at 6pm for a 7pm start. There’ll be an interval at 8, and dancing will finish at 9.30 in time for the ball to finish at 10 to 10.30. The venue is St. Sampson’s Church on Church street, near the Shambles. We encourage you to get the bus or walk if you can, the U1 and U2 both get pretty close. There will be an open bar, and medieval costumes are highly encouraged!

Tickets are £28 for members and £31 for non-members. See you there!

This week, York SU confirmed the ratification of Restore Britain Society a group who have already held events like ‘‘detain and deport pub golf” and signalled their support of fascist figures like Oswald Mosley.
While we feel that free speech and debate is important, Restore Britain’s policies of ending DEI, repealing the Equality Act, repealing the Human Rights Act, banning abortion, repealing the gender recognition act, banning burqas and niqabs, mass deportation, and more, limit the freedom of everyone, make campus a more dangerous environment for all marginalised groups, and go against the SU’s own commitment to inclusion and equality.

Caledonian Society wholeheartedly condemns Restore Britain society and would completely support a move to deratify. CalSoc is, and will remain, an inclusive community, and we want all students to feel safe and welcomed on campus.
If you’d like more information about Restore Britain Society, we recommend the extremley comprehensive post on the society’s views and the party’s policies made by .loonysoc . Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you feel targeted or unsafe.

Hear ye! Hear ye! The CalSoc summer hall theme is: Medieval!

The ball will be at St. Sampson’s Church on the 5th of June. We hope you’re as excited as we are, it’s going to be really fun!
We’ve included outfit ideas for some medieval-inspired looks, but feel free to commit as much or as little as you like to the theme. It’s supposed to be fun, so just where whatever you feel most comfortable in, whether that’s a tunic or a tie.

Are you holding a ceilidh? Need someone to call your dances? Drop us a message or email and we can help!
We have plenty of experience organising and running our own ceilidhs, alongside teaching dances at events hosted by UoY International Communities, Alcuin College, Sapphic Society, and more! We’re also well connected with Folk Society if you need a band for your ceilidh as well.

We’ll negotiate costs with you when you get in touch, although we typically ask for a minimum of £50, which goes towards our society funds for own balls and events. If you’d also like music from folksoc this amount will increase.

Looking for a professional band instead or advice on running a ceilidhs? We’re happy to tell you what we’ve found from running our own ceilidhs, including good venues and bands :)

We’re really excited to tell you about our joint social with and this Tuesday! We’ll be in our normal room at our normal time, ATB/057 at 7.30pm, and you can expect lots of dancing (both ceilidh and morris) accompanied by some wonderful music from folksoc. It’s going to be really fun and a great opportunity to meet some of the other folk societies at York. See you there!
