The Voice Research Lab of the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong invites you to participate in a research project supervised by Dr. Estella Ma and conducted by fifth-year students of the Speech and Hearing Sciences program. This study aims to explore the relationship between mental health and acoustic features, and the accuracy of assessing mental health through acoustic analysis, laying the groundwork for the development of future mental health diagnostic tools.

We sincerely invite eligible participants to take part in a 1-hour voice sampling session.

Research Procedure
Participants will complete five voice assessment tasks: sustained phonation, counting, reading passages, picture description, and video commentary. The researcher will record the sessions for later analysis. The entire process will take approximately 1 hour and will be conducted at the Voice Research Lab of The University of Hong Kong (7th Floor, Ming Wah Complex).

Eligibility Criteria
We are seeking participants who meet the following criteria:
✔️ Aged 18–30
✔️ Proficient in Cantonese and able to read Chinese fluently
✔️ Without depression or other psychiatric conditions (e.g., anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc.) OR with depression
✔️ No history of neurological disorders unrelated to depression (e.g., stroke, head and neck cancer, traumatic brain injury, cognitive impairment, thyroid surgery, Parkinson’s disease, etc.)
✔️ No physical conditions directly affecting the voice

Participation is entirely voluntary. Each participant who successfully completes all the experiment items will receive a HK$50 supermarket gift voucher. If interested, please register via the following link: https://forms.gle/3kA6KmV2iZkKjEkf7 or scan the QR code on the poster. You may also contact Miss Lui (Tel/WhatsApp: 6169-4913; Email: [email protected]) or Miss Wong (Tel/WhatsApp: 5571-1243; Email: [email protected]) for more information.

received an invitation from Dr May P**n to present at the online forum “The Future of Voice Therapy: Bridging up Technology and Human Skills”. What an honour to join the forum with Prof Kittie Verdolini-Abbott and Prof Jackie Gardner-Schmidt! 🤩🤩 During the open-mic discussion 💬, thoughts and ideas were shared around applications of AI in voice therapy, how to use technology in voice therapy smartly, and how to make a good balance between technology use & human soft skills in clinic. Around 80 voice clinicians and researchers from Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Philippines, and Australia attended the forum. It’s very fruitful session!
Thanks for this opportunity! ❤️💕
