Join Professor Houri Berberian and Professor Talinn Grigor at this book talk, where they offer the first history of Armenian women in modern Iran. Foregrounding the work of Armenian women’s organizations, the authors trace minoritarian politics and the shifting relationships among doubly minoritized Armenian female subjects, Iran’s central nodes of power, and the Irano-Armenian patriarchal institutions of church and political parties.

Engaging broader considerations around modernization, nationalism, and feminism, this book makes a conceptually rich contribution to how we think about the history of women and minoritized peoples. Understanding minoritarian politics as formulated by women through their various forms of public and intellectual activisms, this book provides a groundbreaking intervention in Iran’s history of modernization, Armenian diasporic history, and Iranian and Armenian feminist historiography.

“牡丹記,” co-directed by Liu Yuqing and Jintao Sun, is a traditional supernatural narrative inspired by Yu Xuanji (魚玄機), a Chinese female poet from the late Tang Dynasty. The film employs “Xuan paper” 宣紙 as its visual background, enriching its cultural depth.

Since its inception in 2024, the AIGC Film Section of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) has rapidly become a globally influential platform for AI cinema. As the first dedicated section among major international film festivals focused on AI-driven visual creation, it has attracted thousands of outstanding submissions from dozens of countries worldwide.

Professor Geng Song, Faculty Board Chair Professor, Professor at the School of Chinese and Programme Director of the Master of Arts in the field of Translation (MAT) Programme at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), was honoured at the HKU Excellence Awards Presentation Ceremony for 2025 held on Thursday, 30 April 2026. This award recognizes his exceptional mentorship and commitment to supporting and guiding his students in their pursuit of research excellence.🌟

The ceremony, officiated by HKU President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang, with Pro-Chancellor Dr the Honourable Sir David Li Kwok Po as the Guest of Honour, celebrated outstanding achievements of HKU scholars in teaching, research, and knowledge exchange between HKU and society.

Professor Rujing Stacy Huang, assistant professor at the Department of Music, University of Hong Kong, and co-director of the Faculty of Arts' new Music Entrepreneurship and Popular Practice (MEPoP) initiative, joined the 6th annual Technology for Change Asia which was held in Hong Kong from 11-12 March 2026. Organised by The Economist Impact, Technology for Change Asia is an annual technology summit that assembles business and policy leaders to discuss the impacts and applications of technology.

Professor Huang had the honour of being the only academic speaking at the event, participating in the panel “IP and creativity: making AI robust, reliable and fair.” Her perspectives were featured because of her simultaneous roles as a musicologist, a critical AI scholar, and a former director of the AI Song Contest Foundation. Her knowledge and experiences as an arts academic allowed her to fill an important gap of expertise at the summit by bridging technological discussions with humanistic insights, while addressing AI’s impact on the creative economy (such as the music industry).

At the panel, Professor Huang expressed that “since copyright law cannot realistically keep up with the pace of technological change, inclusive, balanced dialogue across disciplines and sectors are crucial to facilitate understanding." She also called for "thinking beyond the question of legality and re-directing our attention back to art as a creative process, that is, as what happens between the data input and output, and ultimately, art as the aesthetic education of humanity.”
