The history of the Internet began in the early 1960s. After 50 years development, there are now two billions Internet users in the world. Popular web services such as email, social network, web searching, file transferring and web tunnelling have been used actively. Do you want to know the behind stories and technologies? This course introduces the history of the Internet. This course focuses on t

he different eras in Internet development. The involved technologies will be addressed. In response to the lecture material, in-class exercise and reading materials will be provided to each student. Students will be asked to discuss and present in group on topics related to the influences of the Internet on society, economy, politics and culture. Students are also required to conducted simple experiments of the Internet in some of the weeks to gain hands on experience on the Internet devices and networking software. Laboratory materials, software manual and instructions will be given before the laboratory session. They are expected to address the observation and findings and to identify and solve the encountered problems.
