Three elite athletes share about triumphs and setbacks in their careers💪🏼
On the afternoon of 14 April, EdUHK welcomed three elite athletes to its Tai Po campus: Corné Krige, former captain of the South African Rugby Team; Anthony Watson, former professional England Rugby Union player; and Li Xiaopeng, the iconic Chinese gymnast. After retiring from professional sport, all three joined Laureus to promote the benefits of sport among young people. Invited by the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE), they shared the triumphs, setbacks, and challenges they experienced throughout their sporting careers.
At the full lecture hall, Li Xiaopeng, holder of 16 world titles, including four Olympic gold medals, said that behind every triumphant moment on the podium are countless failures. He encouraged the audience to embrace failure as a friend and, when facing setbacks, to maintain self-confidence and persevere.
The three Laureus ambassadors added that athletic achievement is built not only on talent, but also on mental preparedness and resilience under pressure. Their stories inspired the audience to turn every challenge into momentum.
