GE2123 - Language as Evidence in Court Trials - 言语证据与法庭

This course introduces a linguistic perspective to forensic investigation of crimes and trials: the analysis of language materials as evidence. No legal knowledge presupposed, it intends to take students on a journey to see language experts find answers to questions like how speech and text left by suspects and/or victims may help solve a crime, and how translation and interpretation of materials

may facilitate the settlement of civil trials. This course also aims at cultivating a keener awareness and deeper understanding of language and law. Teaching and learning activities include lectures, tutorials, discussion led law practitioners, and field works wherever feasible.
