【HKU Centennial Distinguished Chinese Scholar】We were honoured to welcome Professor Xuliang Deng, Dean of the Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, to the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, on 16–17 June as an HKU Centennial Distinguished Chinese Scholar. During his visit, Professor Deng delivered two insightful lectures under the HKU Centennial Distinguished Chinese Scholars Scheme, drawing strong interest from the academic community, with more than a hundred participants attending the two sessions in total.

In addition to the lectures, Professor Deng also met with faculty members and staff, joined the NSFC-RGC Research Discussion, and toured the IAD-MSC, fostering valuable exchange on oral biomaterials, translational innovation, digital dentistry and interdisciplinary collaboration. We sincerely thank Professor Deng for his inspiring visit and for sharing his expertise with our students, researchers and faculty community.

【港大百周年傑出中國學者】我們非常榮幸能夠獲得北京大學口腔醫學院院長鄧旭亮教授於6月16日至17日蒞臨香港大學牙醫學院，擔任港大百周年傑出中國學者。鄧教授於到訪期間，發表了兩場精彩講座，反應熱烈，廣受學術界關注，兩場講座合共吸引逾百名參加者出席。

除講座外，鄧教授亦與學院教職員會面、參與 NSFC-RGC 研究交流討論，並參觀了牙醫專科診所，促進了口腔生物材料、科技轉化、數碼牙科及跨學科合作等方面的深入交流。衷心感謝鄧教授蒞臨分享，為學院師生及研究人員帶來寶貴啟發。

Congratulations to Professor Mike Leung, Clinical Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, on his appointment to the Philip K H Wong Foundation Professorship in Clinical Dentistry. With the generous support of the Philip K H Wong Foundation, Professor Leung will further advance his pioneering work in the management of facial deformities, including obstructive sleep apnea, cleft lip and palate, and facial asymmetry. His research focuses on enhancing the precision and safety of jaw surgery, particularly through patient-specific implants and multi-segmental osteotomy, with the aim of improving patient outcomes and quality of life.

恭賀口腔頜面外科臨床教授梁耀殷教授獲委任為黃乾亨基金教授席（臨床牙醫學）。承蒙黃乾亨基金慷慨支持，梁教授將進一步推動其在顏面畸形治療方面的開創性工作，涵蓋阻塞性睡眠窒息症、唇顎裂及面部不對稱等範疇。他的研究聚焦於透過個人化植體及多段式截骨技術，提升顎骨手術的精準度與安全性，以改善患者的治療成效及生活質素。

【GBA MedTech Hackathon 2026】The Faculty is proud to announce that an entrepreneurial team led by Professor Dan Kiho Cho, Assistant Professor in Dental Materials Science, has been selected as one of the Top 10 finalists at the GBA MedTech Hackathon 2026.

The team presented DentoSeal, an innovative oral biointerface sealant platform, at the Asia Summit on Global Health 2026. Designed to support sealing and integration at complex oral interfaces, DentoSeal reflects the team’s commitment to translating dental materials research into practical clinical solutions.

Notably, the project was also selected by the Global Hub for Future Dentistry (GHFD) and its related research received Best Poster at the 2026 Nature Conference – Translational Biomaterials.

As the only dental-focused finalist this year, this achievement showcases the growing impact of oral healthcare innovation in the broader medtech ecosystem.

Congratulations to the DentoSeal team on this outstanding accomplishment!

由牙醫學院牙科物質學助理教授Dan Kiho Cho領導的創業團隊，於香港大學（港大）科創中心（TEC）及青年科創學院（TEA）聯同灣有引力共同主辦的「2026粵港澳大灣區醫療科技駭客松」中脫穎而出，入選最後十強，成績令人鼓舞。

團隊於「亞洲醫療健康高峰論壇」（ASGH 2026）中展示其創新項目 DentoSeal。該項目是一個口腔生物介面封閉材料平台，旨在改善口腔組織、植體及牙科裝置之間複雜介面的封閉與整合，體現團隊致力將牙科材料研究轉化為臨床應用方案的努力。

此外，該項目亦入選牙創匯・培育計劃，相關研究更於「轉化生物材料」《自然》會議中榮獲最佳海報獎。

團隊作為是次比賽中唯一以牙科為主題的十強隊伍，反映了口腔醫療創新在整體醫療科技生態中的發展潛力與影響力。

【Health and Medical Research Fund】The Faculty is proud to announce that Professor Yanqi Yang, Clinical Professor in Orthodontics; Professor Melissa Fok, Clinical Assistant Professor in Periodontology & Implant Dentistry; Professor Daniel Yang, Clinical Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Professor Xuan Li, Assistant Professor in Tissue Engineering and Regeneration; and Dr Mohamed Abdalla, Clinical Practitioner, have been awarded the Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) by the Health Bureau.

The detail of their research projects are as followings:

Principal Applicant: Professor Yanqi Yang, Clinical Professor in Orthodontics
Project Title: Al-powered risk management system for fenestration and dehiscence in orthodontics

Principal Applicant: Professor Melissa Fok, Clinical Assistant Professor in Periodontology & Implant Dentistry
Project Title: Single-blinded randomized non-inferiority controlled clinical trial comparing endoscope-assisted flapless approach versus papilla preservation technique in periodontal regeneration of intra-bony periodontal defects

Principal Applicant: Professor Daniel Yang, Clinical Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Project Title: Smart distraction: Ai-assisted optimization of trans-suture distraction osteogenesis (TSDO) for maxillary hypoplasia in cleft adolescents

Principal Applicant: Professor Xuan Li, Assistant Professor in Tissue Engineering and Regeneration
Project Title: Nano-immunoantibiotics: multi-targeted therapy for periodontal disease by eradicating pathogen persisters, neutralizing virulence, and suppressing pyroptosis/NF-KB-induced Inflammation

Principal Applicant: Dr Mohamed Abdalla, Clinical Practitioner
Project Title: Enhancing antimicrobial defense and odontogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells using glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta inhibitory peptides incorporated into calcium silicate cement
