This subject will introduce the beauty of ancient Chinese architectures from perspectives of architecture design and building services. The beauty of the ancient Chinese architecture will be appreciated from social, cultural, political and technological perspectives. The “beauty” expressed by architectural functions, spaces, forms, types and styles, indoor air quality with adequate natural ventila
tion, thermal and visual comfort, drainage, acoustic, daylighting utilization and fire protection will be analyzed. By learning the ancient architecture, this course aims to help students to set up a comprehensive criteria system to appreciate architecture. By using individual criteria system, students will be able to evaluate architecture from the perspectives of function, culture, geography, politics and social issues, combing their own professional disciplines. Student’s performance will be assessed by individual report and group project.
