GE1323 - Discovering the Living Environmental: How Green Are You?

According to the statistics from Global Green of USA in 2003, 40% of the world’s resources and energy use are consumed in living environment related activities. This GE course is designed to enable the students to acquire the basic knowledge of sustainable products adopted in living environment in terms of its impact on environment and the related economic assessment. Through the investigation of

sustainability in different on campus technological developments and their home, this course aims to: (1) develop a sense of curiosity by self-assessment of how “Green the students are” in their existing living environment; (2) provide fundamental concepts of environmental sustainability, engineering design and materials, and relevant industrial economics; (3) foster creativity by designing: (a) engineering/building products and (b) daily consuming products with consideration of green elements; and (4) examine the Environmental Impact Index (EI index) against the whole life cycle by scoring the students’ own designs.
