GE3103 - Cultural Encounters in East Asian Cinema and Visual Media

This course examines various forms of cultural encounters in contemporary East Asian cinema and visual media. Through critical analysis of a variety of genres, including film, television, anime and manga at the level of narrative, visual style, as well as contexts of production and reception, students will be encouraged to formulate informed opinions on the negotiation of cultural identity in popu

lar cultural texts, and the way in which economic globalization and intra-/inter-regional interactions have impacted the transnational/translocal circulation of media products.
