GE1124 - Modern Applications of Chinese Classical Poetry - Modern Applications of Chinese Classical Poetry

This course is intended to give students familiarity with the reading and writing of Chinese classical poetry and its applications on modern society. The course content include the introduction of the different genres, tone patterns and characteristics, as well as nurturing a sense of appreciation, through literary exercises focusing on words, phrases and meaning so that the students gain a comple

te understanding of the composition of classical poems. And they will learn how to apply this to modern life, e.g. writing Spring Festival couplets, pop song lyrics, advertisements, slogans, congratulatory texts, etc. They can also apply this in other literary forms such as modern poetry, fiction and essays. The exploration of classical poetry will also be beneficial to naming practices.
