GE3102 - Cultural Flows in East Asia - 東亞文化流動 Cultural phenomena reflected in the mass media will be introduced as examples.

This course aims to challenge students to understand the complexity behind the phenomena of recent cultural flows in Asia. In addition, the impact of mass media and popular cultures within Asian countries will also be addressed and discussed. Through a multi-disciplinary approach (Historical, Political, Economic, Societal, and Technological) as well as contemporary perspectives (e.g., Transnationa

lism, Internalized Orientalism, Indigenization), the course will enhance students’ analytical skills and understanding of the multiple power structures inherent in the influence of mass media and popular cultural flows in East Asian countries (e.g., Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China).
