Cityu GE 2219 GE2219 - Islam and the Contemporary World - 伊斯蘭與當代世界 Islam is the second largest and the fastest growing faith community in the world.

It may also be the most misunderstood religion in the age of terrorism, and it is usually distorted by the media. Engaging students in approaching Islam as a world religion and as a way of life, this course aims to acquaint them with the historical development of Islam, sensitise them to the key issues of intercultural debates and help them to explore the social lives of Muslim communities. iving the significance of the Muslim beliefs, cultural practices, theologies and history to the present global age and the local social context, this course challenges students to break away from apathy towards global and local affairs, leading them to understand that they are potential peacemakers for interethnic conflicts and intercultural misunderstandings in the future.
