🎉Last Saturday, the RMBI Program at HKUST hosted the RMBI symposium, bringing together students, alumni, academics, and industry leaders to explore the theme “Digital Assets: Risks and Opportunities.” The timing was perfect, as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) had just issued stablecoin licenses in mid-April, marking a milestone for Hong Kong’s digital asset landscape.

💡 We were honored to hear from distinguished speakers. Mr. Daryl Ho, 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 (𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭), 𝐇𝐊𝐌𝐀, spoke on the 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘴. Ms. Raluca Popa, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐇𝐒𝐁𝐂, shared insights on the 𝘵𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴. Mr. Alan Chan, 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫, 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐏𝐰𝐂, explored the 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. Mr. Calvin Lam, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐕𝐌𝐒 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩, discussed 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘦𝘣3.

🙌We also thank Professor Kar Yan Tam, 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞-𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐊𝐔𝐒𝐓, for his inspiring welcome remarks, and Professor Ki Ling Cheung, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐌𝐁𝐈 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, who facilitated the Q&A session with great engagement. Appreciation also goes to RMBI students Jade Tang and Anson Lau, who served as emcees and contributed to the smooth running of the event.

🤝 Our sincere gratitude goes to all speakers, faculty advisors, and RMBI student crew for making this event a success. The HKUST RMBI Symposium continues to be a premier platform for thought leadership in risk management and business intelligence.

✨ RMBI Freshmen Spring Gathering ✨

Last Saturday, our Year 1 students came together for a special team-building workshop that used art as a metaphor for life choices and habit formation. 🎨
It wasn’t about artistic skill, it was about courage, resilience, and growth.

Through creativity and collaboration, students explored:
• Wellness & Self-Awareness: finding mindfulness and reducing anxiety
• Resilience: turning “mistakes” into opportunities
• Habit Formation: seeing how small patterns build big change

A day of connection, reflection, and new perspectives. Our freshmen didn’t just paint canvases, they painted lessons to carry forward 🌱

Why are we studying statistics? 📊Why is learning math useful in our field?

RMBI’s career workshop yesterday offered clear and inspiring answers, and much more. Led by our distinguished alumnus Mr. Sky So 🌟, Partner at EY’s Financial Services Risk Management, the session was entirely student-driven and highly interactive 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️. From the very beginning, Sky welcomed questions and thoughtfully addressed each one 💬✅. As a long-term mentor to RMBI students, he shared valuable insights on bridging the gap between academic study and professional application 🎓💼. The talk focused on how math and statistics can be leveraged in consulting and banking 🏦📈. The discussion also touched on career planning and lifelong learning, inspiring students to see the real-world impact of their studies.

Kicking off the New Academic Year!

To help new RMBI students gear up for the academic year, the program hosted an orientation focused on building connections, sharing insights, and preparing students for the journey ahead. Through interactive sessions and meaningful conversations, students were introduced to the curriculum, program highlights, and the learning journey that awaits.

A special part of the day for the new students was the meeting with their Year 3 peer mentors, who offered guidance, shared their experiences, and helped foster meaningful connections. This tradition of mentorship helps create a welcoming atmosphere and lasting connections among RMBI students.

🙏 We're truly grateful for the contributions of our peer mentors and the spirit of community they help cultivate.

📚 Wishing all our students a rewarding and inspiring academic year ahead!
