新展覽即將登場！

科學與藝術，看似截然不同的領域，卻能交織出知識媒介的新維度。

嶺南大學科學教研部及青花工作室合辦的「Think Outside the Box」科學藝術展覽，將於今年6月中旬展開!

展覽將展示由科學教研部教授及本地藝術家合作而成的11項多媒體作品，勾勒香港淡水、海洋、陸棲及可持續發展城市的輪廓，邀請你傾聽本地生態及環境故事。

同場加映參與「鯨豚與生物多樣性：展覽暨保育大使計劃（第一期）」的中學生展品，他們合力塑造鯨豚相關之藝術品，向你娓娓道來海洋保育何其重要。

10年間走來的研究成果，伴隨無數關心環境議題而走近的腳步。我們希望透過生態導賞、工作坊及研討會，召喚更大的力量，一同在守護環境的路途上繼續前行。

The fusion of science and art—two seemingly distinct worlds—has revealed new dimensions of understanding and expression.

The “Think Outside the Box” Interdisciplinary Eco-art Exhibition will go live in Mid-June 2026!

Presented by the Division of Science (DoS) Lingnan and Seika Studio, the exhibition will showcase 11 artworks created through collaboration between DoS professors and local artists. Through these works, you are invited to explore HK's freshwater, marine, terrestrial, and sustainable urban landscapes, and to listen to the echoes of the environmental issues.

Also featured are secondary school exhibits participating in “Cetaceans and Biodiversity – Exhibition cm Conservation Ambassador Programme (Phase I)”. Working together, students will help highlight the urgency of marine conservation through creative artworks.

Over the past decade, research outcomes have—step by step—brought us closer to voices that care deeply about environmental issues. Through a range of events, including eco tours, hands-on workshops, and seminars, we hope to build even greater collective momentum and continue moving forward together in our efforts to protect Mother Nature.

[🐢眼斑水龜人工繁殖計劃💪🏻]

你知道嗎？現時香港野生淡水龜正面臨嚴重嘅非法捕獵壓力，而香港野外嘅成年眼斑水龜估計已不足一百隻😨。鑑於佢哋嘅繁殖率低，且需要多年先達至性成熟，被捕獵嘅族群短期內難以恢復數量😥。

有見及此，嶺南大學科學教研部助理教授宋亦希博士及其團隊自2018年起，聯同香港海洋公園保育基金、海洋公園以及香港兩棲及爬行動物保育基金展開一項眼斑水龜保育計劃。冀望透過人工繁殖眼斑水龜、野外群族監察、及制定野放計劃，以穩定眼斑水龜於本港嘅群族數目🐢。

[🐢Beale’s Eyed Turtle Captive Breeding Program💪🏻]

Did you know? Hong Kong’s wild freshwater turtles are under intense pressure from illegal poaching, and there are estimated to be fewer than 100 adult Beale’s eyed turtles left in the wild here😨. Because they breed slowly and take years to reach sexual maturity, once a population is hit, it’s very hard to bounce back in the short term😥.

Since 2018, Dr. Yik Hei Sung (Lingnan University, Division of Science) and his team have been working with Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong, Ocean Park Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Society on a Beale’s eyed turtle conservation program—combining captive breeding, field monitoring, and science-based release planning to stabilize the local population🐢.

淡水生態系統的生物多樣性其實十分豐富，而「無脊椎動物」更佔據了當中大部分的物種多樣性。雖然牠們體型細小，卻是生態系統的大功臣，可惜在熱帶地區一直較少人關注，相關研究仍然相對缺乏。

大嶼山的溪流不僅孕育著香港其他地區罕見的獨有物種，更擁有豐富的無脊椎動物多樣性，惟目前我們對牠們的分布及生態仍缺乏全面的了解。為了深入探索大嶼山河溪無脊椎動物的完整面貌，在大嶼山保育基金的支持下，嶺南大學科學教研部正式開展為期 30 個月，名為「大嶼山河溪無脊椎動物的生物多樣性和基因結構調查:對保育的啟示」的研究。

我們的野外考察工作現已全面展開！是次研究的目標包括：
• 建立大嶼山河溪無脊椎動物的生態基線和物種清單;
• 揭示季節及人類活動如何影響這些動物群落; 及
• 評估物種的基因多樣性及其種群連通性。

Did you know that freshwater ecosystems are biodiversity hotspots, with macroinvertebrates making up a large proportion of this biodiversity? Despite their small sizes, they have vital ecological roles. These animals are often overlooked, especially in the tropics, and not adequately studied.

Lantau Island’s streams support a rich and diverse macroinvertebrate community, including unique species found nowhere else in Hong Kong, yet we still don't have a full picture of their distribution and ecology. Supported by the Lantau Conservation Fund, the Division of Science at Lingnan University is launching a 30-month island-wide stream study, “Assessing the Biodiversity and Genetic Structure of Macroinvertebrates in Lantau's Streams: Implications for Conservation”, to dive deep into Lantau’s freshwater macroinvertebrates.

We’ve already kick-started our fieldwork! Our mission is to:
• Establish a comprehensive macroinvertebrate species baseline and inventory in Lantau’s streams;
• Reveal how seasons and human disturbances shape these communities; and
• Assess their genetic diversity and population connectivity.
