Founded in 1951, Shannon College of Hotel Management has been providing hotel management education for over 60 years. The degree programmes includes professional, practical training, a business education and two international work placements.

COMMUNITY & VOLUNTEERING!

A number of our Year 3 and Year 4 students, alongside our Skills for Work Life lecturer, Ms. Stella Sloane, attended the official launch of County Clare as European Volunteer Capital 2027 at the West County Hotel!

Community involvement and giving back are an important part of the Shannon College experience. Throughout our programmes, students engage in local charity initiatives and community work, developing valuable skills while making a meaningful difference to the people and communities around them.

We’re proud to see our students getting involved, building connections and supporting such an important celebration of volunteering across County Clare.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JACK & ANTHONY!

We’re incredibly proud of Jack Rothwell, Year 4, and Anthony Finn, Year 3, following their fantastic performances at the WorldSkills Ireland 2026 Restaurant Service competition at the RDS Dublin.

🥇 Jack — National Champion & Silver Medal Award Winner
🏅 Anthony — National Finalist

Jack returned to WorldSkills this year after competing in 2025 — and this time, he took the national title! 🏆
Anthony also delivered an outstanding performance, adding another achievement to an already impressive competition record!

A huge thank you to Deborah O’Hanlon, who travelled with the students and supported them throughout the competition, and Andrew Langford, our Head of Placement, and Chief expert with Worldskills restaurant service , for his support and preparation with the students.

And of course, a shoutout to all our lecturers, staff, friends and supporters who encouraged Jack and Anthony along the way. 💙

Every year, we’re proud to give our students opportunities to compete, upskill, network, travel and take their learning beyond the classroom. 🌍✨

🌟 SCHM Careers Fair 🌟

Every September, once our students have settled into college life, we welcome hospitality businesses and industry partners from across the country to our SCHM Careers Fair.

This year, we were delighted to welcome over 25 employers to Shannon College, giving our students the opportunity to meet industry professionals, explore career opportunities and find part-time work alongside their studies.

One of the things we love most about the Shannon College experience is seeing our students balance study, social life and work. Part-time employment allows them to build confidence, develop personally and gain invaluable industry experience while studying. 👏

We were also delighted to welcome some familiar faces, including past students and staff, who are now working across the hospitality industry.

🐘 There’s an Elephant in the Room at Shannon College.

A new member of the Shannon College community — and a powerful reminder that no one should feel they have to hide how they’re feeling.
Today, we were proud to unveil ‘Elephant for Sarah’ — a beautiful artist-designed sculpture that will have pride of place in the college atrium as a visible reminder that it’s always okay to talk.
The elephant has been donated in memory of Sarah, whose family are turning their grief into a powerful force for good through the Elephant in the Room movement.
Sarah’s family — including her aunt Maeve O’Keeffe (SCHM Class of 1991) and her daughter Molly Wallace, now in her fourth year at Shannon College — joined us for today’s special launch alongside Elephant in the Room co-founders Brent Pope and Eoin Byrne, colleagues from University of Galway, Kathy Hynes and Bríd Seoige, and Sharon Hayes from Bank of Ireland.
💬 “We chose Shannon College because we want every student there to know they can come and ask for help, to be open about how they’re feeling rather than hide it. That’s exactly what Sarah would have wanted for others, because she felt she couldn’t do that herself.”

☀️Skills course ☀️

This day last week we welcomed students from across Ireland and even Europe to take part in our 4th ever hospitality skills development course right here on our Shannon campus ! 🌊🌞

During the day, students got to explore the world of hospitality, up skill, learn about our programmes, and meet likeminded people 🙌🏼

From culinary arts and restaurant service, barista skills and allergens, to EPOS systems and tray carrying, students leaned in to the world of food and beverage !
In rooms division, we explored the hotel room, interior design, floral arrangements and guest experience.

We met a recent graduate from the class of 2024, mr Daniel Ecock, who shared his journey from student to restaurant manager of the brand new Japanese inspired Ōku at the renowned Adare Manor Hotel and Golf resort.

We incorporated team building skills, CV and interview tips, quizzes, and an insight into the college courses on offer here!

The day was jam packed with information and good vibes 😎 and each student walked away with a certificate of achievement 👏🏼

Thank you to our students Amalija, Sophie, Eva, Conn and Charankanwar, who gave up their Saturday to assist with the day and speak with the students. Thank you to Daniel for your time and wise words of advice. Thank you to our staff and lecturers who put together an incredible course. And of course, thank you to those of you who travelled near and far to join us on the day!

We hope you enjoyed it and we can’t wait to see you all again very soon! 🕺

We are incredibly fortunate at Shannon College of Hotel Management to have such a wonderful range of scholarships and awards presented on Graduation Day. These honours—generously donated by our industry partners, alumni, and long‑standing friends of the College—reflect the strength of our Shannon family and the pride we share in our students.

Congratulations to this year’s well‑deserving winners, and a huge congratulations to the Shannon College of Hotel Management Class of 2026. We are so excited to see what the future holds for every one of you.
