Oh but there is a grand stretch in the evenings and that can only mean one thing.... Evening dives are back!!! We love this time of the year so we have more opportunities to get in the water. Last week some members headed down for some lovely trainee dives at 7 Heads in Cork. Congratulations to .moore084 for qualifying as our newest D1*.

Last Saturday saw a group from all the clubs in Cork come together for another Diver First Respinder (DFR) course in UCC. The DFR is one of the best courses for divers of all levels to have in their pocket to keep everyone safe during our club activities. Well done to everyone who completed the course and, as always, a massive thank you to the instructors who make this all possible.

UCC SubAqua and are delighted to hosting a screening of the documentary Who Needs Anemones? in UCC on Thursday 16th April from 7-9pm. The documentary will be followed by a Q&A session with filmmaker for a chat and refreshments.

Tickets are free but essential and are available now on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/film-screening-of-who-needs-anemones-tickets-1985871416866?aff=oddtdtcreator&keep_tld=true

Who Needs Anemones? follows the story of scuba divers from both sides of the Irish border on their journey to becoming citizen scientists. Through the SeaSearch Observer training and ongoing survey dives, this growing community of underwater surveyors is eager to contribute to the protection of their marine environment by collecting underwater data for biodiversity databases.

Filmed in and around Carlingford Lough, a sea inlet on the east coast of Ireland spanning the border between the Republic and Northern Ireland, the film explores the divers’ personal stories and shared passion for diving and ‘giving something back’. The lough’s colourful eye-opening marine life is showcased through stunning images taken by the divers themselves.

A brilliant Paddy's Weekend diving trip away, without the diving!! UCCSAC ventured down to Kilkee, Clare and was met with beautifully harsh water conditions 🌊. Despite this, our members were able to snorkel 🤿 in sheltered areas, go on windy walks around the cliffs of Kilkee 🪨, watch the rugby on Super Saturday 🏉 and even participate in a lecture of New Materials for More Effecient Solar Cells 🧠! Also a huge congratulations to the team Beast Cork for winning the UCCSAC table quiz 📝

Even without diving, UCCSAC still had a brilliant time in the lands of Clare, familiarising new and current members of the club. All in all, an extremely successful trip. A massive thank you to all who helped organise, and hopefully there is a lot more diving to come during the rest of the year!!

Club Maintenance Day! 🔧🔧
We all love getting in the water, but there is a lot of work to get us there. This weekend saw some club members doing some essential maintenance to get us ready for the next diving season.

BCD repairs and pouring a mammoth 52kg 🏋‍♂️ of lead weights for all to use. Well done and thanks to all who helped out. See you in the water soon!

This cold weekend UCCSAC had plenty of snorkellers and divers in the water. Over the two days there were 21 members in the water, regardless of the cold temperatures ❄️. This year's trainees got plenty of experience snorkelling in the water, practicing different crucial skills required to become a D1! Well done to all involved and well done to the club for being so active this time of year 🤿

The spirit of the IVs goes far and wide! 😁

Friendly competition reached as far as Antarctica this year with UCC Instructor Gràinne and UG Instructor Sean taking part in a few games of their own. Reports are this leg finished in a draw! 😂🤩

Great to see our club members spread around the world and we are very proud of these two working and diving in such amazing surroundings. Miss you both and look forward to seeing you when you get home.

An incredibly succesful Intervarsities held by in Killary, Co. Galway!! Held off Rossroe Pier, we enjoyed both shore and boat diving. Though weather conditions were challenging, wet and windy this did not stop us from having a great time and seeing a great amount of sealife🐟.

Incredibly fun challenges were organised, where universities competed against eachother to determine the Intervarsities Champion 🏆, with UCC only narrowly missing the #1 spot by 1 point 😔. Games included (but are not limited to) a Snorkel Race, Blindfold Kit Assembly, Pub Quiz, Snorkel Tug-Of-War, Knot Tying Competition, Costume Competition, and Rose of Killary!!
Our brave UCC Divers did remarkably well and we gave it our all.

Overall, it was an incredible weekend and we enjoyed it immensely. A huge thank you to University of Galway for organising such a great Intervarsities and we are excited for next year!!! 🤿

Congratulations to Liam Murphy who qualified as a Diver 1* today during Intervarsities 2025 in Killary!! Liam showcased his diving abilities in rough conditions and cold weather but did not let that hold him back, diving 4 times over the Intervarsities weekend in order to qualify!

Well done Liam!
